(thanks to Ms. Janda for that title!)
Bluebonnet Books kicked off last week and will continue until the end of January. 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders are invited to read at least 5 Bluebonnet books to be eligible to vote for their favorite! You don't have to be a reading teacher to promote this. The following link will take you to a plethora of Bluebonnet book resources- READERS THEATER SCRIPTS, book trailers, author interviews, games, activity ideas, etc: https://texasbluebonnetaward2017.wordpress.com/
2nd grade was the first grade level to take advantage of our Makerspace and do a STEM lesson. Students furthered their learning of folktales and fables by becoming engineers and building a house for the three little pigs. Houses were made of toothpicks and marshmallows and needed to be sturdy enough to withstand a breeze from the big bad wolf (my hair dryer!) Students had a great time working together and brainstorming designs. Please contact me if you'd like to bring your class in for a lesson, I have activities for all subjects!
Here in the library on October 13th at 3:45 we will host a session about some of the digital research resources available. Resources for both lower and upper grades will be shared!
Quilts are now available for the first semester! Come see what books we have- these will make for great read alouds for your class!
Schlitterbahn's Waves of Pages (K-5th)
This week I will be putting information about Schlitterbahn's reading program- Waves of Pages in your boxes for your homeroom students. Students will have 10 weeks to read 10 additional hours (beyond their homework) and record it on their log. If their log is complete and turned in by the time we leave for the holidays, students will receive a FREE ticket to Schlitterbahn! Teachers also have the chance to earn a free ticket for participating as well!
Storybook Pumpkin Patch
There will also be information in your boxes about our first storybook pumpkin patch. Students can decorate a pumpkin based on their favorite book character. Pumpkins are to be dropped off sometime between October 24th- October 28th. Faculty members will vote on October 28th and the most popular pumpkins will win prizes!
