Indigenous Education Month
Kwey kwey, She:kon, Taanshi, Greetings, (pronounced Kway, kway, Say go, Tawn shee)
This area is home to over 7000 First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. It is the traditional homeland of the Anishinaabe (pronounced Ah nish nah bay) and the Haudenosaunee (pronounced Ho den oh show nay). It is also home to Métis, Inuit and First Nations peoples from across Canada. The Limestone DSB believes that all students need to know about the distinct cultures, traditions, and histories of First Nations, Métis and Inuit and has designated the month of November as Indigenous Education Month. Throughout the month we will be sharing announcements and using a variety of resources in classrooms that will teach students about the Indigenous people of this area.
