Bristol Township School District
November 2023
Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Bristol Township School Community,
As we approach Thanksgiving, I find myself reflecting on the spirit of gratitude that permeates our community. It is with appreciation and warmth that I extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for contributing to the vibrancy of our school district.
Teachers, administrators, support staff, board members, parents, and our students play a vital role in shaping the culture and success of our district. It is this collaboration and shared commitment to education that makes me truly grateful.
As we gather around tables with family and friends this holiday season, let us take a moment to reflect on the countless reasons we have to be thankful. You will see many reasons in this month’s newsletter, including the district receiving a $15,000 grant for farm-fresh foods, students who acknowledged teachers for their impact with “Shirt Off My Back,” and much more.
Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Michael Nitti

Veterans Day Spotlight: Eugene "Butch" Oberlander
In honor of Veterans Day, we are thanking Eugene "Butch" Oberlander, U.S. Army Veteran, for his service!
Eugene “Butch” Oberlander is a physical education teacher at Armstrong Middle School, and this year, he was inducted into Bristol Township’s Athletic Hall of Fame for track and field, and cross country.
After graduating from Truman High School in 1984, Mr. Oberlander served in the U.S. Army on active duty from 1985-1988 and was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado. His helicopter unit was sent to Honduras and assigned to help train Honduran soldiers during the Honduran Nicaraguan conflict in 1988.
Mr. Oberlander was an Army reservist from 1988-1993. His reserve unit was called to active duty to serve in Operation Desert Storm 1990 to 1991. His helicopter unit was assigned to medevac missions and saw the heaviest action during the 4-day ground war in Kuwait.
He received an honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant after completing his 8-year commitment.
Armstrong vs. Franklin Sports Day
One of the most fun days of the fall is when the two district middle schools, Armstrong and Franklin, battle in healthy, spirited athletic competition in each sport in a friendly rivalry. Student-athletes from both schools faced each other in Field Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball and Football and showcased their skills and abilities while the Cheerleaders kept the energy high!
"It's always great to see our athletes match up with each other and represent their respective schools," Athletic Director Tim Monaghan stated. "We look forward to their continued development and success, and continuing their athletic careers as Truman Tigers."
Shirt Off My Back
Seniors in fall sports nominated a Bristol Township teacher, past or present, who has made a profound impact on them not only in the classroom setting, but also in the students’ life outside of the classroom.
By giving this award to a particular teacher, the student is acknowledging that teacher’s efforts and successes. Teachers who are selected receive a handwritten letter from their nominator – explaining the reasons supporting the choice, and a T-Shirt with the student’s name on it. Teachers are encouraged to wear the T-Shirt to their nominator’s senior night if possible and to school to show their appreciation and support to the student.
