The Fairview Connection
MARCH 10, 2022
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
We’ve had a good week here at Fairview! Students have been working hard in their classrooms and we appreciate the effort of our third, fourth and fifth graders on the math portion of the Illinois Assessment of Readiness this past Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Next week, students will take the ELA sessions on Monday at 10 am and Tuesday at 1 pm. Fifth grade students will take the Illinois Science Assessment on Wednesday and Thursday, which will wrap up our state testing aside from completing make-up tests for students who were absent. We receive results from our state assessments typically in the fall and will share them with parents at that time.
As shared in last week’s newsletter, today is Spread Goodness Day! We've been encouraging kindness at school all week long as part of our morning announcements and have seen students and staff showing kindness in a variety of ways. If your child wants to share what they did that was kind for someone else in celebration of Spread Goodness Day, they may do so at this link, which can also be found on the Fairview website. It would be neat for students to share and be able to hear about what their peers decided to do to spread goodness, and I look forward to hearing more about their kindness!
This afternoon is a half-day institute for the Fairview Staff. After our students head home at 11:50 am, our teachers will be engaged in professional learning and collaboration about either math instruction or teaching clear school-wide expectations depending on the staff member. The time we have for learning and collaboration is very valuable to us, and we appreciate having set days during the year for this purpose. Looking forward to next week, we are excited for a virtual author visit with Dan Santat on Tuesday. On Friday, we will host our next PTO special lunch for those who have ordered. This weekend daylight savings time begins, so be sure to push your clocks an hour ahead. We look forward to seeing our students again on Monday! Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus

STUDENT SIGN-IN/SIGN-OUT PROCEDURE
DRESS FOR OUTDOOR RECESS
Please make sure your children are dressed to go out for recess. Unless it is raining or the temperature /wind chill is too cold (15 degrees or below, real-feel temperature) the students will go out every day for recess. Please write your student’s last name on a tag in their coat and snowpants so they don't end up in our Lost and Found. It would also be helpful to put their name on the bag that they bring their snow gear in every day.
All students will go out with their class unless we have a doctor’s note limiting their participation. If a student has been ill and he/she is not feeling well enough to participate in all the activities of the school day, perhaps another day at home will insure a healthy return to school.
