Welcome New Heritage Family Members
Shari Robinson - 6th Grade
Janiel Wagstaff - 2nd Grade
Heidi Walsh - 2nd Grade
I graduated from Arizona State University in 1997 and got my Master’s Degree in 2001. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade until 2002 when I had my first child. I taught preschool out of my home most of those years I was staying at home with my children. I subbed for a year before taking a teaching position and have never looked back.
I have been married 21 years this coming month to my amazing husband Brandon. We have 4 kids-2 girls and 2 boys ages 10-19.
Again, thank you for welcoming me to Heritage! I look forward to meeting you all soon!
Congratulations to our custodian Janell Cross!
Thank you!

Missing Library Books? Unpaid Library Fines? NO FIELD DAY.
It's May and that means things are winding down in the library.
Week of May 10-13: Last week to check out books.
Week of May 17-20: All books checked in this week with all of them being due no later than Thursday, May 20th. No new check-outs.
Getting the last of the books found, checked in, or paid for can be a little bit of a challenge at times. As our library policy states, library accounts need to be cleared if students are going to be allowed to enjoy field day activities. Please remind your students to return their library book.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PARENT COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR NEXT YEAR!
There were 4 parent Community Council seats open for election and 4 applicants, so there will be no need for an election this year. Accordingly, we’d like to welcome our parent Council members who will serve a two-year term starting at the beginning of the upcoming school year: Michelle Barber, Julie Powell, Carlee Hoopes, and Beth Barber. I thought I’d include the candidate bios below so you can learn a little about your Council members.
By the way, Council meetings are open to the public and are held once a month after school during the school year at the times posted on the Heritage web site--please feel free to join us any time! Have a great summer break!

MICHELLE BARBER
I am interested in applying for Community Council because I love Heritage Elementary and I think I can help the teachers, staff, and students best utilize the resources available for improved educational and social experiences. I have loved being involved at the school through PTA and other volunteering in the classroom and school. I love to see the network of dedicated people working together. I currently serve on Kaysville City Council and enjoy learning about the many functions of government, public safety, and citizen engagement that I think could be helpful to our Community Council. One interesting opportunity I had this past year was helping our city wisely spend the CARES act funding and American Rescue Plan funding through analysis of needs weighted against potential benefits in the city. I think this experience could be helpful for the council as we decide how to use the funds available to the school. I look forward to continuing to be involved at Heritage in any way possible.

JULIE POWELL
Hello Heritage parents! I have been honored this past year to be chosen by my fellow Council members to be the Chair of our Community Council. I hope to be able to continue serving on it in some capacity, as I have invested quite a bit of time and energy into Council matters and into our school in general. I am passionate about all things education, am the Legislative Vice President on our PTA Board (I report regularly to the PTA on educational laws and policy), and have a good working relationship with the Community Council office at the state level. I really believe in Heritage and want to do what I can to help it be the best it can be, and I believe that giving parents a meaningful voice at the local level is an important part of a school’s success. In my school days, I was a National Merit Scholar at the highest possible level (a distinction awarded to less than ½ % of the initial pool), and I feel that I know what it takes to achieve academic excellence--which is the primary goal of expending Council funds. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your interest in voting!

CARLEE HOOPES
I am a parent of two children at Heritage Elementary and have spent many hours volunteering at the school over the past eight years. This has allowed me to form close friendships with many teachers, parents, and students, and I am committed to advocating for their success, as well as improving the school and its commitment to whole child development.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Finance and spent several years working for the United States Air Force, which I feel helps me provide valuable insight regarding how to best expend School LAND Trust Program funds. I also have a longstanding interest in academic excellence, as my father was a principal for many years and was the founder of NUAMES (Northern Utah Academy for Math, Engineering & Science), which is consistently ranked as one of the top performing high schools in Utah.
I have been attending Community Council meetings for several years, and have enjoyed being an official member this past year. I would love to build on this and continue to serve in the coming years as well.

BETH BARBER
I have served as a parent volunteer, PTA board member, PTA president, and community council member. I enjoy being involved at various levels in the school and feel that I have the opportunity to represent the breadth of our student body. I have students who are academically gifted as well as special needs. I have children in Chinese immersion and children who are not. I am dedicated to the welfare and wellbeing of our administration, teachers, parents and students. I hope to serve again on the community council in an effort to continue this involvement and participation in the parent portion of spending and academic planning for our students.
