HONORING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
Monday, January 16, 2023 is the day we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This day has been called a Day on, not a Day Off. This is a wonderful opportunity for students and their families to think about ways they can celebrate others - in your family and in the community.
Our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. assembly will highlight Dr. King's hope for the future, what makes each one of us an amazing human and how we can compliment others. This year, classes will be contributing to a school-wide project that acknowledges everyone's 'amazingness'.
As a family, you may want to use these questions as discussion starters:
- What are some things about you that make you amazing?
- What can we do to make the world an amazing place for others?
- Who are some people you could give compliments to?
We have a real opportunity to build up our Brookdale community. Remembering that everyone should feel valued, respected and treated with kindness.

IT'S SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH!
The Franklin Pierce School Board is second to none! They work hard to guide our district and ensure the best for staff and students alike. We are very fortunate to have such an effective and dedicated school board. Please join us in thanking Mary Sherman, Alex Davis, Ron Nero, and Tono Sablan for all their hard work to make our schools the best they can be. This year we also want to honor the 3 Student Representatives - Paige Sasamoto (FPHS); Xavier McMains (WHS); & Ruby Castaniera (Gates).
This month's School Board meeting will be hosted by Brookdale! We are excited to welcome our School Board Directors to our wonderful school! A few of our Student Leadership students will be presenting to the board that evening. The meeting will be Tuesday, January 17 at 6:00. Please join us.

SCHOOL DELAYS AND CLOSURES
As the weather becomes colder, it is important that you have a plan for emergency school closures and limited or delayed bus runs. School may be delayed or canceled in the case of bad weather or an emergency. If the regular school schedule is changed, local radio and television stations will be notified.
"School Closed" means that all schools will be closed for that one day only. All school related activities will be canceled. If schools close early, parents are asked to make arrangements for their child's care.
"Late Start" means that all schools will start late and transportation will be delayed by the amount of time specified for that one day only. Breakfast will not be served on late start days. School related activities may or may not be altered.
Families can expect to receive information about school closures and delays in the following ways:
- Recorded Telephone Message contact the main office at your child's school to ensure your contact information is up to date
- SMS Message for families/staff who have opted-in, click here if you would like to opt-in
- Email from info@fpschools.org

IMPORTANT SCHOOL REMINDERS
STUDENT EARLY DISMISSAL – If your child has an appointment and is leaving before the end of the school day, please make sure you send a note that morning letting the teacher and the office know. If you call, we must receive it before 3:00 and students should be picked up no later than 3:30 due to our end of the day congestion. Also, please allow enough time for pick up. To preserve precious class time, we do not call students to the office until you have checked them out in person (remember your ID).
SCHEDULE CHANGES - The end of the day at Brookdale is very hectic. If you forgot to send a note in the morning (which is preferred) and need to call the school with a change to your child’s schedule, please do so before 3:00 p.m. After 3:00 the office is busy assisting students and parents and will not be able to answer your call or get a message to a student before they leave for the day. All end of the day schedule changes must be made through the office, not with the classroom teacher. Thank you!
UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION - If any of your information has changed (address, contact info., email address, etc.) please contact the office right away. This year more than ever, it will be important to have the most current information. Also, let us know what your preferred method of contact is - phone, email, text. You can reach the office at 253.298.3100.
BUS BULLETIN
Once you know your child's route, you should consider signing up for bus route notifications using 'Bus Bulletin'. Bus Bulletin will send text messages to your cell phone with real-time updates on your child's route. For example, if your child's route is running late, Bus Bulletin will let you know.
To sign up to use Bus Bulletin, follow these steps:
- Log into the website http://busbulletin.com/parents/
- Look to the right side of the screen. Click on 'Sign In'
- Click on 'Register Here' and answer the simple prompts providing your name, email address, a password, and select Franklin Pierce Schools.
- Enter the code on the screen, accept the rules of use
- Click submit
- Select the route which is written in a code - the first two numbers are the ROUTE NUMBER, and the letters are the SCHOOL ABBREVIATION - for example 32JS is Route 32 at James Sales
- Preschool: HDS for Head Start and ELC
- Primary: BD, CA, CH, CO, ELM, HA, JS, MD
- Secondary: FMS, FPHS, KMS, WHS, GATES
