Where is the oakwoods & prairies located?

The oakwoods and prairies are extended northward into the Great Plains or eastward into the forest, sometimes called cross tembers.

Also on the west side of the blackland prairies and hill country,on the northeast side by the pineywoods is the oak woods and prairies.

Weather and Wildlife

The average of rainfall is 28 to 40 inches per year. The elavation range is about 300 feet above sea level. May or June usually has a little of monthly rainfall.

This ecoregion is a transitional area for most plants and animals. There are many types of wildflowers , especially Texas Blue Bonnets , the beautiful area is a great place to get pictures with friends and family. There are also pictures that you can take of different wildlife like the white-tailed deer, wild turkey, bison, black bear, squirrel, mountain lion, and red wolf were once common in the Post Oak Savannah.


The prairies are usually a flat area.There are many wildfires that occur in this ecoregion. There are hills and fields.Rivers are the dominant force in shaping the landscape.Trees and grasses prevent large amounts of soil erosion due to water and wind. Some wate features are rivers, lakes, ponds, and streams.
