ACHIEVING SUCCESS TOGETHER - RÉUSSIR ENSEMBLE
Principal's Message
Considering Late French Immersion? This is an amazing program where a small number of grades 6, 7 and 8 students take their core subjects all in French. No previous knowledge of French is needed if you are coming into the program in grade 6. If you are interested in the program, please don't hesitate to contact Mr. Hoyland or Mr. Mackenzie at 780-672-7785.
Current grade 8 students, your deadline for your ECCHS option selections has been extended until this Friday, May 22nd. There are still 50 students who need to complete the process.
Hockey Academy is planned for next year. We will soon have a teacher in place and will let you know all the details on how to register. Soccer Academy is also planned for next year; if you have interest in registration for these two programs, please contact lloydmackenzie@brsd.ab.ca
As we find out more information about next year, we will be sending out another newsletter to you in the coming weeks. Please don't hesitate to reach out and contact us if you have any questions.
Important Message from BRSD
Now that we know for sure classes will continue in an at-home format for the rest of this school year, our school division has created a consistent plan all BRSD schools will follow for marking and final report cards.
The detailed plan is posted on the BRSD website, in the Wellness and Learning Resources for Parents section. You can access the plan through this link.
You will also want to know that the last day of classes for all BRSD students, in all grades, is Friday, June 19.
That gives families the last week of June to pack up school work and make sure textbooks and other specialized resources or equipment is returned to the school building.
It also gives staff time to prepare detailed year-end summaries that school staff will use to ensure each student gets off to a good start in September.
Final report cards will be available on June 26.
Music Notes!
Greetings from the ECKS Music Department. Like everyone else, we are missing seeing the students, and hearing the sound of music emanating from the music room. We are looking forward to a time when we can all be together and continue with music education at our school1 in the meantime, Mr. Bailey encourages everyone not to forget about their band instruments. We have a Google Classroom for Grade 7 and Grade 8. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing a song of their choice and submit just for fun. Mr. Bailey will listen and give feedback (not for marks)
Mr. Bailey has posted a number of messages and interesting links on the Google Classrooms. Please take a moment to have a look!
Registrations for Band
Current Grade 6 and Grade 7 students are highly encouraged to sign up for band option next year. Grade 8 Band Camps and Concert Tour Dates are already booked, as is the Grade 7 Band Camp. Assuming that Covid-19 is under control by then, we will have a banner year next year! All current Grade 6 musicians are urged to give Band a try in Junior High.
*Information regarding instrument rentals, etc.will be sent out when possible.
Fundraising
Grade 6 and Grade 7 funds raised for band have been held in trust for use on next year’s activities. The Grade 8 Band fundraising profits have been reimbursed. Thanks to those families who chose to donate the proceeds to the band. Much appreciated!
Music in these Times!
Over the course of this pandemic, it has become increasingly obvious that music has vital importance in our society. One only has to look at the news every day to see creative and inspirational examples of how music brings us together. Please see the links below for an example. The first one is a virtual trumpet performance, followed by a group of Toronto physicians who have formed a virtual choir. The final link is Mr. Bailey’s daughters in a special Mother's Day message to Mrs. Bailey. Brittany (Surrey, BC) and Halley (Edmonton) made this virtual duet of a selection from the musical “Jane Eyre.”
Feeling Stuck Inside? No Problem!
