INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY DIGEST
MAY 2016
WELCOME!
Welcome to the first edition of the Instructional Technology Digest! I wanted to update you all on a few items as we wind the year down and attempt to start the next one. Please read through this information carefully as it will be a resource for further technology developments, trainings and information.
DEVICES
This summer we hope to deploy lots of devices to all grade levels. As mentioned in faculty meetings and collaboration times with me this year, our goal is to differentiate our instruction with the use of a technology TOOL (device)! The device we feel appropriate per grade level is listed below:
PK, K, 1st = tablet, intro to
chromebook
2nd semester2nd grade = chromebook flip (chromebook that is touch enabled)
3rd - 12th grade =chromebook
CANVAS
12th grade
students will be utilizing Canvas in their courses and grades 4-6 will be piloting it in certain classrooms next year. If you wish to pilot Canvas, please clear it with your building principal and then let me know. All Teachers will have a Canvas account as well and will be enrolled in a Professional Development Course to track PD hours, tech hours, etc. Many principals will be moving (if they haven't already) to Canvas for announcements, bulletins, etc to keep everything in one place for communication.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
1. Faculty meetings or collaborations related to technology during contract time (10-15 hrs).
2. You can be a tech mentor or a tech mentee and those hours will count as well. If interested in being a tech mentor or being mentored, please click this link to fill out the form.
3. Our professional development is also going to become very differentiated. You will be able to take a course or get help online through some course offerings via the Canvas platform as well.
4. This summer we will offer the tech institute where you can earn up to 16 hours of credit for attending both days.
5. We will also offer some additional workshops on Canvas and Google if you are interested as well. Those dates are listed in the Calendar section below.
