HITEON HIGHLIGHTS NEWSLETTER

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Hiteon Families,
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! It’s been a great first week at Hiteon and it’s wonderful to see our halls once again buzzing with energy! In addition to welcoming roughly 90 new Kindergarten families this year, we are excited to welcome about 60+ new students and their families that moved to the Hiteon area this summer.
Our school focus for the launch of this year has been KINDNESS. Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. We believe that when people are kind, a sense of community begins to form. We have seen many acts of kindness this week among our students: helping a friend who misses a parent, inviting a new friend to play at recess, warm smiles, holding a door, giving a compliment, and thanking someone who performed a good deed. With many new families joining our community, we hope that KINDNESS will help everyone feel welcome and part of our Hiteon community. We encourage this message to spill over at home and invite you to have conversations with your students about ways in which we can be kind at home, school, and in our community.
Have a great Labor Day weekend. We look forward to seeing you all at our Curriculum Night next Thursday, Sept. 6th. See below for more details.
Warmly,
Meghan Warren, Principal
Monica Arbow, Assistant Principal

With school back in session, there are a few safety reminders we would like to mention:
- Please drive safely and slowly in our parking lot. We have several students and parents walking to and from school, and we want to assure everyone’s safety. Please follow traffic patterns and respect all crosswalks.
- When coming to visit, walk your child to class, volunteer, etc., please always sign into the Main Office and wear a yellow visitor’s badge. You are welcome to walk your child to his or her classroom after the second bell rings at 7:55. If you arrive after 8:00, you will have to say your goodbyes in the office and have your child walk to class on his or her own with staff support. School begins promptly at 8:00 and your student will be marked unexcused tardy if he or she arrives after, unless there is an excused reason.
- If your child has a change in dismissal plan, please send a written note to show the teacher. The teacher will turn the note into the office. VERY IMPORTANT: If there is a change of dismissal after 10:00 a.m., call the Main Office directly and the Office will notify the teacher. If the office does not receive the information, the teacher will send the child home according to their regular dismissal plan.

CURRICULUM NIGHT
Please join us for Curriculum Night. This event is a great opportunity to meet your child's teacher, learn about classroom routines, the learning targets for the year ahead, and how you can best support your child's learning. Although we love children here at Hiteon, we do ask the evening remain an adult only event.
We are offering three sessions to accommodate families with multiple students. The times of each session are listed below. You may self-select the sessions that best accommodate your family. Classroom presentations will feature our Teachers and Gym presentations our Administrators, Counselor, and PYP Coordinator. We look forward to having you at Hiteon next week. Go Hawks!
