Spring is here! I hope all of you are enjoying the warmer weather! (Well hopefully very soon!) THANK YOU to all of you who participated in the Lynch Spring Conferences! It is exciting to see all the growth our students are making! Thank you for partnering with us to ensure their success!

• Smarter Balanced Assessment: April is a busy month with state assessments beginning. Lynch 3rd-5th grade teachers and students are working hard to prepare for the Smarter Balanced Assessment. The assessments will begin the week of April 17th and will conclude on May 12th. Students will be assessed on Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Science (5th grade only). These assessments are rigorous and require students to apply their knowledge to real life problems. Students who pass these assessments in elementary school are more likely to pass them in middle and high school. Oregon now requires students to pass these assessments in order to graduate from high school. Regular and on time attendance has a huge impact on whether students pass these tests. Please continue to have your child attend regularly and thank you for your support during these important assessments!

• AMAZING AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS: We are so fortunate this year to offer 6 different after school clubs! Students were invited to apply for the clubs and then we randomly drew student names to fill the 15 or 20 spots. Thank you for your participation! The clubs that have begun are going well! We offer the following:

• Attendance: WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Research shows that to have maximum success and graduate from high school, students should attend school 95% or better. Currently our schoolwide percentage is: 90.4% We have a schoolwide goal of accumulating ten days at 95% or higher. Our students will be asked to contribute to a menu of ideas that we as a whole school can use to celebrate when we reach our goal of 10 days at 95%!! Will I receive more pie to the face? or will the whole school get popsicles or root beer floats??? Stay tuned to find out. Additionally, classrooms have the ability to compete with each other and Build-A-Cub of attendance. When classrooms have 10 days at 95% attendance, they get to Spin the Attendance Wheel and celebrate with some fun activities. Thank you for supporting our kids in getting here everyday on time and not leaving early! We appreciate all of you!

• Cub Recognition: Two students from each classroom have an opportunity to have the character trait yard sign displayed in their yard for a month. Students going out of their way to demonstrate the monthly character trait will be in the drawing for the sign, “Cubs with Character”! Chosen students will display the sign in their yard for one month and then return it to school. Also all students have the ability to earn tickets for positive choices for demonstrating safe, respectful and responsible behavior. Each classroom has generated a menu of “low budget, fun rewards” that students can choose from. Also, students may receive a Cub Pride for going above and beyond with their citizenship. Go Cubs!!

• Donuts with GrownUps: Please join us on April 20th for our next Donuts with GrownUps.. Our focus for the month of April is Cooperation. If you would like to preview the materials or view the video clip ahead of time, please just call the office and make an appointment and we would be happy to share it with you.

• Coffee Chat: At 9:00 after Donuts with GrownUps meet us for a Coffee Chat. This month’s focus will be: Personal Safety and Assessment data. Hope to see you there!

• Evaluación Smarter Balanced: Abril es un mes ocupado con el comienzo de las evaluaciones estatales. Los maestros y estudiantes de los grados 3 a 5 de Lynch están trabajando arduamente para prepararse para la evaluación Smarter Balanced. April is National Facial Protection Month

Every April, National Facial Protection Month strives to raise public awareness and remind parents/caregivers, coaches and athletes to play it safe while playing sports. The Academy for Sports Dentistry (ASD), American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), and the American Dental Association (ADA) are collaborating to promote National Facial Protection Month observance to help people learn more about how simple it can be to take five and make a play for better safety that protects not only your eyes, mouth, and face, but also your peace of mind. Take five, and take in these five simple safety tips.

1. Mouth Guards are a Must. Mouth guards are significantly less expensive than the cost to repair an injury, and dentists and dental specialists can make customized mouth guards that hold teeth in place and allow for normal speech and breathing.

2. Helmets are always Helpful. Helmets absorb the energy of an impact and help prevent damage to the head.

3. Have 20/20 Vision with Protective Eyewear. Eyes are extremely vulnerable to damage, especially when playing sports.

4. Face Shields Save Skin…and more. Hockey pucks, footballs and racquetballs can cause severe facial damage at any age.

5. Cheer and Shout Out Your Support for Mandatory Protective Gear.

Abril es el Mes Nacional de la Protección Facial Cada mes de abril, el Mes Nacional de la Protección Facial se esfuerza por crear conciencia pública y recordar a los padres/cuidadores, entrenadores y atletas que se mantengan seguros mientras practican deportes. It doesn't matter whether absences are excused or unexcused, each missed day represents missed learning time. Missed days add up quickly. When a student misses as few as two days a month, that is 10% of the school year. This increases the risk of academic and social-emotional struggles.

Did you know?

• Children who are chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade?

• Chronic Absenteeism can occur when students miss a day or two every few weeks.

• Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child graduate from high school and keep a job.

Thank you to all those that participated in our Butter Braid/Puffin Fundraiser. Delivery of the frozen items with be this Friday, April 7th from 2-5 pm. All items will need to be picked up that day because we have no room to hold frozen items.

You will be happy to know that we sold 334 items and earned a total of $2200 to help pay for much needed P.E., STEAM and Library supplies.

Forms are coming home to pre-order your yearbook for the 2022-23 school year. Cost is $12 and we only have a limited number available. Yearbooks will be handed out the last week of school. Can you believe the end of the school year is just around the corner? The Lynch Head Start classrooms having been working on a bread study and gardening study. We are looking forward to some warmer weather and more time outside. Teachers have been attending meetings for the children heading to Kindergarten and we are also working on doing a Kindergarten field trip. The Lynch Lion Pride welcomes any parents to our meeting on April 17th @ 4pm in the school lobby. This month we will be planning how to spoil our teachers/staff during the first week of May and making more preparations for the May Garden Spring Fling event.
