Happy Thanksgiving!
Bilingualism
One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way. – Frank Smith
"Learning a second language can be the key to a student’s success, supporting everything from increased cognitive function to higher rates of success in school and in the careers that come afterward" states this article from the Huffington Post.
Foreign language acquisition is a powerful tool to help students remain competitive in an increasingly globalized world. Take a look at the graphs below to see how the US compares to other countries when it comes to bilingualism. The average US student spends 2 years studying a foreign language. In contrast, students in other countries start secondary languages between the ages of 6-9 and spend an overall average of 9 years studying foreign languages. See what a 4 year old can achieve in this captivating game show video segment as she amazes the judges by switching effortlessly between multiple languages.
Language learning is also a great way for our children to become aware, appreciate, and accept others and their differing cultures, the world and its varying citizens, as seen in this TEDx video.
IQuest offers Spanish and Chinese as language options to those eager to get off on an early start to language learning. They are both taught by native speakers who offer private lessons during weekdays/weekends as well. If you would like your child to take advantage of these options right here in your neighborhood, please contact us.
