Student Government Association (SGA) News from Mr. Oedemann, SGA Sponsor:
I am excited to announce we now have an SGA this year! Elections were held this week and a big congratulations go out to Saanvi Purohit, Parker Luskey, Peton Rushin, and Corie Stiritz for being elected SGA leaders! Congratulations also go out to all the 5th graders that ran for these positions. It takes a lot of courage to take a chance like that. I'm proud of you!
Our goal is to have students take some ownership of Cedar Grove and make positive changes in our school and the community. Representatives from homerooms along with our elected SGA Leaders will meet to discuss spirit days, ways we can make Cedar Grove the best that it can be for all students, and how we can help our local community. I look forward to seeing where this year can take us all!
Canned Food Drive
We greatly appreciate the donations received so far of canned and boxed food items for the Damascus HELP food pantry. It's not too late to donate, as we will be collecting items until Wednesday, November 10. These items are much needed for the holidays. This can be a family activity to teach your child about giving back to the community. Some children like to bring an item each day and some like to bring a bag of items to drop off one day. Please click on "Give What You Can" to see the most needed items. Thank you for your participation!
Mental Health Awareness Week to be Held November 8-13
Join us as we celebrate Mental Health Awareness with a spirit week November 8 - 12. Each day we will focus on one action that can help us feel part of a warm and caring community while also be true to ourselves.
Please read this important note from our counselor, Mrs. Spoales:
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Montgomery County Public Schools is taking an active role in the prevention of child abuse and neglect through early prevention and intervention education.
During the months of November and December, I will be presenting lessons on the topic of child abuse and neglect. The lessons are known as Personal Body Safety Lessons and their purpose is to help students to:
- Develop knowledge, decision making skills, and behaviors which promote safe living in the home, school, and community;
- Learn skills for self-protection and identifying child abuse and neglect;
- Learn skills for asking for help for self and others and practice reporting to a trusted adult; and
- Engage in positive and appropriate interactions with peers and adults.
If you have any questions or concerns about the topics that will be covered, please contact me at 240-740-6190 or Erin_M_Spoales@mcpsmd.org.
