IB Class of 2014

OMG you are almost a senior!!

IB Year One is DONE

Congratulations on surviving the toughest junior year possible! I hope you are feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. Or at least that you will after you have caught up on your sleep. I am certainly proud of you.

I hope you have a restful summer that allows you to come back refreshed as a BHS Senior.

If you get bored of laying horizontal on your couch, below are some options that might be fun and also help your CAS requirements (and provide additional awesomeness for your resume and college application).

College Applications

Before you know it, it will be time to submit your college applications. In most cases, you will use Apply Texas (as the name suggests, this is for Texas schools) and the Common App. These applications will be open starting in August 2013.

Check the websites of the schools you are applying to for deadlines. December 1st is a typical deadline for major universities. Complete your applications as early as possible so you have one less thing to worry about. To complete your application, send an official transcript and your SAT/ACT scores.

The big news with Apply Texas is that they've changed the essay topics for the first time in years ... maybe you'd like to start outlining these while you have time.

One last thing ...

I have made the difficult decision to leave Bryan High School. I am moving to Austin to live closer to my nephew (who is 2 and really, really funny) and be an awesome aunt. It's been an emotional decision since I love BHS and the B/CS area has been home for a very long time.

It has been a great pleasure to be your guidance counselor these past few years. I remain happy to help you in any way I can, including writing you a letter of recommendation should you need/want one from me. You can email me at heididoodles@gmail.com. I found out last week that I will be a counselor at Westlake High School, so I will eventually have an email address there if you want to look me up that way.

I don't know yet who will be the IB counselor, but I am confident that you will be in good hands.

Good luck next year ... you will be in my thoughts.
