Hello Dunning Community!
We are finally entering our first full week of school!!
Our school has been busy with curiosity and learning! It has been a wonderful week and we look forward to the seeing all of the wonderful learning in our classrooms in the week ahead!
It was great to see so many families last Thursday at our Curriculum Night for grades three through five. We are looking forward to seeing our kindergarten through grade two families this Thursday, September 27th at 6:30.
Also, on Friday, September 28th, our Panda Pride Fun Run is set and ready to begin at 9:15 with our lower grades, and 10:30 for our upper grades. This is a fun community event for our kids. Thank you to PTO for organizing and supporting this event. Parents are welcome to join us to cheer their runner(s) on.
We are including a poem this week that we recently came upon. It reminded us of the importance of a positive home-school connection.
Two Sculptors
I dreamed I saw a studio
And watched two sculptors there.
The clay they used was a child’s mind
And they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher – the tools he used
Were books, music, and art.
The other; a parent, worked with a
guiding hand,
And a gentle, loving heart.
Day after day, the teacher toiled with a touch
That was careful, deft, and sure,
While the parent labored by his side
And polished and smoothed it o’er.
And when at last, their task was done,
They were proud of what they had wrought.
For the things they had molded into the child
Could neither be sold or bought.
And each agreed they would have failed
If either had worked alone.
For behind the parent stood the school
And behind the teacher, the home.

Sincerely,
Ms. Schecter & Mrs. Mulkerin

You are invited to become a member of the Dunning School Council.
A school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.
The main purpose of Dunning School Council this year will be to look at family and community engagement at Dunning and to assist in the development of a plan to address this area.
We envision a school in which all families feel a sense of belonging and feel confident that their contributions to the community are welcomed and appreciated. We work hard to make this the case but know there is always more work to be done. We have a short survey to help us identify positive changes we can make. Please help us help the school community by completing the following survey.
Please email Ms. Schecter (mschecter@framingham.k12.ma.us) if you would like to learn more about getting involved in the school council.

ROOM PARENTS 2018-2019
- Do you enjoy volunteering your time?
- Helping your child and their classmates?
- Parties?
Then we have the job for you!
This does not take up too much of your time. Teachers are looking for a parent to help organize class parties by creating sign ups, alert families of special activities, and help with certain classroom notifications. Most of the work is done via email. The teacher & students will thank you for it!
