Our Mission at St. Mary's Catholic School
A Message from the Principal
Dear St. Mary's Families,
The year is obviously going to speed by in a blur...I looked at my calendar today and realized it is time for another newsletter, and I swore that there was no way 2 weeks had gone by since my last one already! But, here we are, and it is indeed two weeks since my last update! Tuesday this week marked the midterm for 1st quarter, meaning we are now officially 1/8 of the way through the school year! It is truly remarkable how quickly things are moving along this year!
It may go by quickly, but it will be a fantastic school year! I feel blessed to stand outside and greet the kiddos each morning and give them high fives and hugs as they start their day. It makes each day special, and it sure is a great way to start MY day! Thank you again for trusting us to care for your kids each day. They are a blessing to all who encounter them!
God Bless,
Mrs. Bridges
Breaking down our mission statement - Part 3
Take a S.I.P. at St. Mary's Catholic School!
If you look to the top of this newsletter, you will see our school's mission statement. We aim to educate our kiddos in a greater fullness by also filling the reserves of their faith and spirituality and taking care of their physical well-being. In our third week of our mission overview, I'd like to talk about the "physical" portion of your kiddos education.
Physically
Yes, we offer PE class to children for their physical health...all schools do that, right? But our approach to physical health is so much more! First off, Mr. Wordeman has developed a PE curriculum that encourages kids to embrace a healthy lifestyle OUTSIDE of school! He teaches units in many "lifetime" sports such as rock climbing, archery, inline skating, bike riding, golf, and bowling. He even has a unit on yard games! The idea is to help kids enjoy things they can do at home and for their lifetime.
But beyond PE class, we encourage kiddos to take care of their bodies because they are a temple for God. We teach them to respect their own body, and those around them by observing healthy boundaries and establishing a "Circle of Grace."
We offer healthy lunch options for all families that meet USDA requirements for a healthy and balanced meal. We encourage families to send healthy snacks for their children, and teach them the value of good nutrition for their physical well being now and in the future.
Teachers recognize that the "intellectual" portion of student learning can be inhibited by a lack of movement. We have plenty of recess times to allow the kids to get their bodies moving and their blood pumping. They also utilize "brain break" times, having kids dance and move to videos like "Go Noodle." Physical movement is paramount to intellectual learning...so we let them move!
We are proud of the physical education we provide for our students. It is our hope that when they graduate from St. Mary's, they will continue living healthy lifestyles and taking good care of their bodies.
Here are a few other ways we encourage the physical education of our students:
- Dance & Theatre clubs
- Girls on the Run club
- Extra curricular sports (basketball, volleyball, track, cross country)
- Archery club
- Walking field trips
- For all Kids Program to learn to ride bikes
- And so much more!
