News for GLVN Volunteers (Thông Tin cho Thầy Cô GLVN)
November 4, 2017
Dear Teachers,
Happy (belated) All Saints Day!!! We had a wonderful "Alive With the Saints" celebration on Sunday that hopefully inspired you for the week!
Thank you to our 8th and 11th grade students and teachers for all the time you put into making our first "Alive With the Saints" event successful! We had many visitors young and old throughout the afternoon in the gym. It was so wonderful to see our students interacting and sharing what they had learned with our visitors! One elder parishioner told me "Hay qua! Hay qua! Cac em noi tieng viet gioi qua!"
This was an exciting step in our efforts this year to extend our GLVN program into the life of the parish. We were able to pray with Mary during the parish Fatima celebration in October, and now in November, we were able to evangelize to our parish community about the lives of the holy saints.
It's amazing to see our youth smile and share Christ like they did this past Sunday, and it's because of your sacrifices and dedication as a catechist! THANK YOU!!!!
In Christ,
Chi
Young....
...and old .... all enjoyed learning about the Saints!

Continuing to Pray with the Saints in November

Last year, our GLVN program were blessed with generous donors who gave us beautiful gifts of Saint images for each of our classes. This is your patron Saint for your class. Click here to see the prayers for each Saint. We will print these and post in your classroom, please take time to pray it with your students each week. This is one of the ways that we can incorporate prayer into our weekly program with your children.
We are also sending these prayers to the parents to encourage parents to pray these patron Saint prayers with their children every day at home to help them grow in holiness at home, at school, at work and in life.
Don't forget to turn your clocks back 1 hour this Saturday before you go to bed!
Recycling -- Caring for God's Creation!
We have finally gotten recycling bins in the school! There is one large bin in the gym and one large bin in the cafeteria. Please keep your papers in the classroom in a separate spot and bring them to the gym or cafeteria to recycle. Please DO NOT throw garbage in the recycling bins. Otherwise, it makes for a lot of work for the parish janitor to separate things to recycle.
This Sunday, c.Nga would like to stop by your classrooms for a few minutes to explain the importance of recycling and how to do it to your students. Teachers -- your help is appreciated with this effort! Let's care for God's beautiful creation by recycling! :-)
Thank you c.Nga for helping us take on this effort!
GLVN Challenge is Beginning!
Like in the past, the GLVN challenge is meant to motivate our students to keep learning about their faith outside of our GLVN time. You can feel free to incorporate it into your class time if you'd like.
Thank you for your support in helping our students grow and learn beyond the classroom!
Upcoming Dates in GLVN
- November 26 -- No School. Thanksgiving Break.
- December 3 -- All School Advent Retreat. Teachers and helpers will still need to be involved in this day, since the retreat is on a Sunday. Students will spend some time with our special guest speaker, but will also spend time in class with you doing Advent Retreat activities. More details to come during the monthly teacher meeting next Sunday (11/12).
- December 10 & 17 -- Review and Test Day. We have set these dates as review and test days for the school. We understand that many grades have not been able to get through all the material that they had hoped by this time. You can choose to do your test after the Christmas break if you would like -- we just ask that you please send home a note with your students to let them know the exact dates of your test, so that their parents can help them adequately prepare. We have scheduled the parent-teacher conference day this year for January 21, so you'll want to have some sort of measurement of your students' progress before then to have something to talk with parents about on January 21.
A TNTT Thank You!
TNTT would like to thank all catechists for your support during the lunch fundraiser on October 22. The youth met their fundraiser goal!!
They are now preparing to attend NCYC, a conference that gathers more than 25,000 Catholic teens across the country to grow in their faith, participate in service projects and other faith activities, hear nationally- known Catholic speakers, and attend Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and Confessions. This year’s event takes place in Indianapolis, Indiana, from Nov. 16-18. This year the NCYC organizers have invited the TNTT (the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement) to participate in a very special way as part of the opening ceremony, performance and prayer. This is a unique opportunity for our youth to share their Catholic faith and Vietnamese culture with their peers across the United States.
Our Đoàn will have 27 youths and 10 youth leaders representing the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement.
Watch Our Youth Perform!! Live Streaming of NCYC -- November 16-18
If you would like to see our TNTT youth at the event and experience NCYC LIVE via the web, you can watch it all at the NCYC website! Click the “NCYC Live” button at ncyc.info or nfcym.org. The button will not appear until November 16. You can download the streamcast schedule here.
