What are we Learning?

Ah! So glad you asked!

As we begin quarter two, we will re-visit informational texts. We will move beyond asking basic questions to focus on more complex questions. We will create questions with partners and independently. We will focus on text features of nonfiction texts. We will be examining titles, captions, glossaries, and indexes. Not only will we practice identifying these texts features but we will also be discussing how they are helpful to us as readers. How can captions help us? Ask your second grader soon and they can tell you! :)

With the new quarter, comes a new writing unit! We will be working on writing informational texts. Students will be challenged to include all of the text features we learn about in reading in their very own nonfiction texts. We will be learning about scientific writing and how scientists record their information. Non fiction/Informative texts are what most adults read!

We have been working hard on money and time and our students will soon take their Quarterly Assessments to show what we have learned and retained. As we begin Quarter 2, we will revisit place value, addition and subtraction of two and three digit numbers, skip counting, money and time. We will be strengthening our skills with using our strategies like the NUMBER LINE!!!!

We would like to thank parents/volunteers who helped make our Fall Festival parties great. We also wanted to thank all the families who sent in donations for the party. The students had a fun afternoon!

Just a reminder that as the weather gets colder, students will need to have a jacket to participate in recess. If they do not have a coat, they will not be able to go outside on cold days. We want to keep everyone healthy! If students are missing jackets, they are encouraged to check the lost and found!

ESSL trip in December

Please be on the lookout for upcoming information concerning our trip to the Earth Space Science Lab in Frederick, MD. We will send home information as we receive it.

Wild West at BES!

Students will preview the book fair during their media time and create a wishlist. The students will not be permitted to shop before or after school. They will have to attend the book fair with an adult during shopping hours or they can send their wishlist and payment to the office and we will fill the orders.
