Classroom Happenings
Kindergarten classes have been so busy. They have learned about groundhogs, Valentine's Day, African History Month nonfiction and animal research. They used captions and pictures to gather information and they are really learning those nonfiction text features.
First grade classes have been doing research about their animals, learning about fairy tales, and famous African Americans. They have learned about IIM (Independent Investigation Method), which is our process for research. Mrs. McRorey's class researched presidents. I'm amazed at what our first graders can do! Their writing in their products was impressive! We worked on using our research to write expository pillars.
Second grade has primarily been working on research, as well. We spent time doing learning about presidents, elections, government officials, plants, climate vs. weather in Texas, and African American History figures. Our nonfiction research was used to write expository pillars for their drafts. Science classes were able to research processes that created man made products from natural resources.
Third grade is doing research learned about biographies. They researched famous African Americans. They went through the entire IIM process to show their knowledge of research! We worked on poetry, drama and inferencing! Great work!
Fourth grade is working on drama, inferencing and Texas history. Ask your 4th grader about the inferencing categories and about the Alamo! Ms. Wang's students are working on Texas history plays, too. Mrs. Garcia's reading classes have been making great choices for books they will read to younger students. There was a lot of good information gathering happening here!
Fifth graders continue with 40 book projects and we have teams of 5th, 4th and 3rd graders who are participating in the Bluebonnet Rumble Competition in May. Thanks, Leaders! Classes have worked on their book club work in the library. Their choices for books are awesome!
