A New Year Prayer for Love
Dear God, Thank you that you are a loving, gracious God. Thank you that you’ve offered us forgiveness and the gift of new life in you. Thank you that your love is perfect, it never fails, and that nothing can separate us from your love.
We pray that our lives would be filled and overflowing with the power of your love so we can make a difference in this world and bring honor to you. We ask for your help in reminding us that the most important things are not what we do outwardly, it’s not based on any talent or gift, but the most significant thing we can do in this life is simply to love you and to choose to love others.
Help us to love as you love. Fill us with your Spirit so that we can choose what is best. We are weak Lord, but we know also, that even when we are weak, you are strong within us. Thank you that it’s not all up to us. Thank you that you equip us to face each day with the power of your love, your forgiveness, and your grace. We love you Lord, and we need you today, and every day, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Happy New Year everyone,

A word from the principal
I hope that each and everyone of you had a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones! A big thank you for all the lovely Christmas treats you brought! I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Blessed Happy New Year! When I think of our school community, I cannot help but think how blessed I am to be part of such a welcoming, loving and caring community. I keep all of you in my prayers, and hope that the New Year will bring you Good Health, Peace, and Love.
It's hard to believe that we are already starting the second part of this school year! After all the festivities, it is time to get back into the routine of getting everyone ready in the morning. Ensuring that backpacks, clothes and lunches are ready the night before can ease the stress and anxiety of the return to school. Students will need to focus on learning and reading is a very crucial part of their ability to learn. Please plan to set time aside every night for reading with your child. Taking turns while reading with them and asking children questions about the story you are reading help make this time special and will increase their understanding. Reading to your child is also very important. It teaches them how to use punctuation, intonation and it promotes fluency while they read.
I want to thank all the parents and grandparents who have been volunteering in the school in one way or an other. Your help is so very appreciated! You really are helping make our school a better place.
We look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow!
Blessings,
Mme Lafrance

Dear Parents and Staff:
Parents and Staff of EICS students are invited to take part in a Blanket Exercise to be held at Central Learning Services (310 Broadview Road) in Sherwood Park on Wednesday, January 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Blanket Exercise is an active participation learning activity based on the major themes and findings of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. The goal is to build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. Everyone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy. For further information, please view this KAIROS Blanket Exercise video.
Participants are asked to bring a blanket that can be placed on the floor and stepped on for this activity.
Please RSVP by Monday, January 13 by filling out this linked Google Form.
We will also have Eva Stang join us at this event. Eva, a Métis Culture and Knowledge Keeper, has been working with EICS this year, supporting the continued growth in staff and administrator knowledge of Indigenous perspectives.
If you have any questions, please email Crystal Cholin, Learning Services Consultant (crystalc@eics.ab.ca).
