Davis/Martin Peek at the Week
January 16- January 19
Dear Parents,
We hope everyone has enjoyed their five day weekend and is refreshed and ready to come back to school tomorrow! Friday and Monday count as AMI days 1 and 2. Students should be completing the work for those two days in their snow days folders and bringing them back to school to turn in. They have five days from the snow day to complete and turn in their assignments for credit. We will go over the assignments with our students in case there are any questions. Remember, extra recess is a great time to get homework completed or extra help in the classroom.
Second quarter report cards went home last Wednesday and should be returned tomorrow (if they haven't been already).
Our students began D.A.R.E. last week and they loved it! We are looking forward to the drug and violence prevention strategies they will learn through this program with the Jonesboro police officers.
Last week, students were introduced to Genius Hour. They will be provided an hour each week to explore a topic of their choice. They will think of a question related to their topic to research and present their findings on. Projects will be due the week of February 26th. They will present their projects to one another this week and then have them on display for parents and the community at Night of the Arts.
Night of the Arts is Thursday, February 8th at 5:30 p.m. Students' Genius Hour projects will be on display for you to view. Our school will also be having a dinner and Silent Auction. Mrs. Davis's class is in charge of making a Gift Card basket. Mrs. Martin's class is responsible for creating a I LOVE Books basket. Any donations you can make to help create these baskets for the auction would be greatly appreciated!

SOCIAL STUDIES:
- Colony Creation simulation project - Beginning this week, students will work in cooperative groups and put themselves in the shoes of past colonists. They will also pull "fate" cards that determine what will happen to them on their voyage, as well as in their colonies once they have landed. Throughout this project students will be blogging about their experiences as colonists. This project is always a lot of fun, so make sure to ask your child about it!
