MCAS UPDATES
This year Dunning will participate in the Infrastructure Trial. The window for this is February 11 - March 15. We will be making the schedule for that soon.
Updated MCAS English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science and Technology/Engineering practices tests and related resources are now posted here.
Please see guidance on graphic organizers below. Students should be using them NOW and they should be well practiced if they will use them on MCAS.
Graphic Organizers, Checklists, and Supplemental Reference Sheets for Students with Disabilities on Next-Generation MCAS Tests.
As a reminder, the Department does not permit the use of individualized graphic organizers that contain text or supplemental reference sheets for the next-generation ELA and Mathematics tests. This rule applies to all next-generation tests in ELA and Mathematics, including the new high school tests. Students with disabilities using accommodation A9 may only use these supplemental ELA graphic organizers and Mathematics reference sheets. These approved materials may be used as is, enlarged, or with text omitted. It is not permissible, however, to add text or references.
For the STE tests and high school Biology and Introductory Physics field tests, schools may use the sample STE reference sheets provided by the Department for students with disabilities using accommodation A9 (no additional approval of these sheets is needed). Alternatively, schools may submit a customized reference sheet for approval for STE following the procedures on pages 18–19 of the Accessibility and Accommodations Manual.
Family, Friends & Neighbors Day
This Thursday, 1/31, is another Family, Friends & Neighbors Day. Please do not assign homework and, to the extent possible, avoid scheduling athletic practices/games, music rehearsals, and other school-driven commitments on family time in exchange for students to be afforded that time to engage with their family, friends, and neighbors.
Remaining Date

27TH ANNUAL SALUTE TO FRAMINGHAM DINNER
Sheraton Framingham Hotel
Tickets are on sale now. If you are planning on going, please sign up in the office and give checks/cash to Shannon by February 17th ($65/tickets, checks made out to ‘Framingham High School Foundation.’) They are holding two tables per school until that date, and then they will release the seats. We need to confirm our tables no later than February 26th, however I would like to email them prior to that date if we will need more than two tables. Please put your name on the list if you plan on going ASAP. You can get the check to Shannon later.
MCAS INFO
For staff that will be administering MCAS (and administered last year at Dunning):
School and district staff who had access to PearsonAccess Next (PAN) during the previous school year should log into PAN to make sure their accounts are still active. If you are able to log into your account successfully, no further action is needed at this time. Accounts that were automatically disabled will receive an error message upon log-in; resetting the password will enable the account.
* For staff that are new to Dunning this year, you will soon be added to PAN if you will be involved in MCAS testing. You will receive an email regarding password setup once you've been added.
MCAS Practice Tests Updates
Blank CBT Response Boxes Now Updated
Blank CBT response boxes, which allow students to practice answering constructed-response questions using TestNav, have been updated. For ELA and STE, students can answer the constructed-response question and use the blue arrow at the top of the screen to submit a final answer. Educators can then view the student response and print the screen to review students’ work (this is the same functionality as in the practice tests).
Calculators are embedded in the Mathematics and STE response boxes for the grade levels where a calculator is required during MCAS testing.
collaboration/plc schedule
data chats
We will be having the second round of data chats on the following dates: Thursday 1/31, Tuesday 2/5, Tuesday 2/7, and Thursday 2/17. We will be looking at the following data: BAS and iReady (math only). We will be looking at both achievement and growth. Our goal is to look at your class as a whole to identify patterns that can inform Tier 1 instruction.
BAS
Please bring a printout of your most recent BAS scores identifying students per the following:
- Green = at or above benchmark
- Yellow = less than one year below benchmark
- Red = more than year below benchmark
Please identify students who have not moved at least two text levels.
iReady
Please bring your class diagnostic growth report for math.
Coaches will be a part of the data chats. Here is the schedule:
access testing
- All of our ELs will be tested. ELD teachers, please let teachers know when you will be taking their students for testing (for students on your caseload).
- We will be testing in many areas of the building. Please note the signage and be respectful in the halls. Please don’t go into the cafeteria if the doors are closed.
- We will need to borrow some chromebooks from classrooms for testing. We hope to minimize the disruption to your instruction when doing this. We will notify teachers if we are borrowing your chromebooks.
- If you are a classroom with 1-1 chrome books, please have your students take those for testing, that way we can minimize the use of borrowing from other places.
- Any and all students that have headphones should take their headphones with them. We only have 14 headphones with microphones that we use for speaking, and we will need to keep their use restricted to the speaking test.
- With regard to using the library for testing, Jaimie is working working on schedule. If we do end up needing it, it will be in the once or twice in the afternoon toward the end of January.
CARE & SHARE
Please remind your students to bring in items for Care & Share. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving. As an added incentive, the class that brings in the most each month will earn 15 minutes of extra recess on the new playground!
- January: Canned Fruit
- February: Rice
- March: Crackers
- April: Spaghetti
- May: Juice Boxes
- June: Cans of Tuna Fish
