Oak Ridge Family Focus
December 2nd Edition
Weekly Update
This week we were struck by the image above. The difference between 20 minutes, 5 minutes, and 1 minute of reading each day is astounding. Over the course of an educational career, a student who reads 20 minutes each day will have so much more knowledge and can be more successful than a student who reads very little or not at all. In order for our students to reach their maximum potential, we ask for your help. While students do read at school, it is important that they get 20 minutes of quiet time to read (anything they would like!) at home every day. It can be shared reading with a parent or sibling, or the whole family sits down and reads their own book or magazine at the same time. As you can see with a commitment of just 20 minutes each day of reading, the results really add up for our kids.
As always, thank you for your help. We truly appreciate all your support from home in helping our students, and your children, be the very best versions of themselves.

Hippotherapy for Students with Special Needs
"Hippotherapy is a mounted activity utilizing the unique movement patterns of the horse. It is implemented by a PT, OT, or Speech Therapist. The child is not learning riding skills, but is gaining improvements in muscle tone, strength, postural control, balance, and coordination from weight shifts and postural displacement created by the unique horse's gait."
