School Buildings Closed, Distance Learning Continues
In this afternoon’s press conference with Governor Hogan, the state superintendent of schools, Dr. Karen Salmon, announced all Maryland public schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
WCPS understands there will be many mixed emotions and questions following this announcement. Our staff misses students, students miss their friends and their teachers, and the list goes on. There is a shared desire among our learning community to simply get “back to normal.” It is unfortunate our school communities will not be able to gather again for the remainder of the academic year.
WCPS students will continue to engage in distance learning through the last day of school, which is Wednesday, June 10, 2020 for students. We will be sharing information about finishing out the school year in communications to families over the coming weeks.
Student Belongings
Students may have personal belongings at their school they would like to pick up. This process will be arranged in compliance with the executive orders from the state during the month of June. More information will be sent closer to the time that this can occur.
Support for Students and Families
WCPS appreciates the hard work of students, families, and our staff in the effort to help children continue to learn during the school closure.
During this time, it is a priority of WCPS to support student needs through services that are typically provided during the school day.
