BUZZ IN AND OUT-- Jefferson Exterior Door Procedures

SCHOOL ID REQUIREMENT

Safety for your students is our top priority. We will be requiring students to show their student IDs or their STUDENTVUE (on their phone) when they buzz in and out of the building using our doorbell system on Kerby St.and Commercial St. We will be working with students to make sure they have their IDs (picture retake day is Monday, October 3rd).

A reminder: all of our exterior doors are locked during the day. In the mornings and during the lunch hour, we staff doors to welcome students and make sure they get to class on time. All other times, students need to ring the bells on either Commercial Side A floor or Kerby Side A or B floor. Here is the message we shared with students this week.

College and Career Updates and PSAT Information

Jefferson Class of 2023 students and families - mark your calendar for these upcoming events:

  • FAFSA/ORSAA Kickoff, Tuesday, October 4th, 5:30-7pm in the cafeteria. Enter on Kerby St. side. Food will be provided!

PSAT for Sophomores and Juniors (Juniors must register)

Wednesday, October 12th, is PSAT Testing day for all Jefferson HS 10th grade students. The 2022-2023 PSAT (Preliminary SAT) test will be held Wednesday, October 12 on the Jefferson Campus. All Sophomores are automatically signed up for the PSAT, paid for by Portland public schools. More info here.

For Junior families: Taking the PSAT/NMSQT in your junior year of high school is the only way to have a chance to become a National Merit Scholar and potentially win scholarship money! Even if you don’t end up qualifying or winning scholarship money, you earn valuable test-taking experience that can prepare you for the actual SAT or ACT (there’s a reason why it’s also called the Practice SAT, after all!). If your junior is registered for a fall term PCC class, please remind them to email their instructor no later than Friday, October 7th to let them know they will be testing that day and find out how they can make-up the missed class.

Wednesday, October 12th is PSAT/NMSQT day at Jefferson. All 10th grade students and any 11th grade students who signed up will take the test at school that day. Students not taking the PSAT on October 12th will participate in other planned College and Career Day activities.
