Holly Academy News & Views
September 11, 2020
To say the past two weeks have been delightful is an understatement! It has been so gratifying to see our Huskies back in school happy and learning. Our new protocol limiting adults inside the building has been a success. Students have done an excellent job learning independence by getting to their classrooms safely and completing morning and dismissal routines. Even our smallest Huskies have got this down to a science! Thank you to all our parents that encourage your child/ren at the doors each morning. Power of the Pack!
Thank you to our virtual families for being so patient waiting in line for pictures yesterday. As this year is a learning curve for all of us it will take time to plan efficiently for events such as this. It was so great to see our virtual Husky students as you were waiting, though! We miss you! It’s GREAT to be a Husky!
Today we observed a minute of silence at 8:46am to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11. Students also learned grade level appropriate information about Patriot Day. Thank you to all of our families that donated Husky Helps Pantry items to recognize this day of remembrance. Dare to be remarkable!
Unity Day
October 21st is Unity Day. The purpose of Unity Day is to demonstrate that we stand together against bullying. Teachers stress the importance of inclusivity during the week of October 19th, that we are united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion of all students. On Unity Day students may wear orange or our HA "Stand Up To Bullying" shirts with dress down bottoms. Recent events in our nation have emphasized the need for a culture of acceptance in all situations. Please see the "Stand Up To Bullying" order form should you wish to purchase a shirt/s. Any type of SUTB shirt can be worn as dress code (elementary students may not wear the hooded sweatshirt). It's GREAT to be a Husky!
HEALTHY HUSKIES
Holly Academy has been assigned two RNs from the Oakland County Health Division who will partner with us during COVID. They made a school visit on Tuesday to meet with office personnel. They reported that we have all the protocols in place to keep our Huskies safe and healthy. They will be checking in with us weekly to support our needs. We are happy to add them to our pack!
The sneeze guards have been installed in the elementary classrooms. A HUGE "thank you" to our maintenance team for assembling and attaching hundreds of these guards!
Please remember that if your child has any COVID symptoms you need to keep them home and check with your physician for consent to return to school. Power of the Pack!
Our Huskies have been busy learning not only procedures and expectations, but they have jumped right back into “academic mode”! The bumps in the road are starting to lessen and I am looking for that trend to continue. Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate this new normal.

It has become evident that parents or others at home are working hard to ensure their children are successful. However, completing work for your students only hinders them in the future. It is critical as we are assessing where students are academically, that we are getting a true picture of their strengths and areas of opportunities.
Thank you to our HVA students and families for their continued patience during this transition to virtual learning. As you know, Holly Academy has not offered a virtual platform prior to this year. HVA students will have all of their usernames and passwords for our online components and have learned how to log in, and have begun completing their work.
Previously, we had stated that parents would be receiving usernames and passwords for Odysseyware. This will not be the case. It is my hope that students and parents are sitting down together to look through the virtual work just as they would normally do if they were in brick and mortar school. Additionally, Google Classroom is only open to students. Parents do not have access, other than through their children, to their student’s Google Classroom.
NWEA testing will happen remotely for our students in HVA. Students will begin testing at the end of September with their HVA teacher. More information will be coming next week on how you can help prepare your student for remote testing.
Important items to note:
Student’s first point of contact is their HVA teacher.
Daily attendance is required. Virtual schooling is a full week of academics. While you may be able to flex your time during the day, it is expected that students participate daily, Monday - Friday.
Y5 - 2nd grade students:
Sign into your homeroom Google Classroom each day and sign the attendance. (This must be done daily).
Check out the songs and stories teachers have posted.
Complete daily assignments in Google Classroom or paper copy of resource packet (if applicable).
3rd - 5th grade students:
Check your email.
Login to Odysseyware and complete assignments for the day in their assigned classes.
Log in to Google Classroom for math resources, PE, and Spanish.
Log in to Big Ideas Math for math assignment.
6th - 8th grade students:
Check your email.
Login to Odysseyware and complete assignments for the day in their assigned classes.
Log in to Google Classroom for math resources, PE, and Spanish.
Log in to Big Ideas Math for math assignment.

The PTO is Seeking Volunteers!
We are searching for an individual to assume the role of PTO secretary. Below are the responsibilities of the PTO secretary, as outlined in our bylaws. On average, the role of the secretary takes about 6 hours a month.
Section 3 Recording Secretary
The Recording Secretary of the HA-PTO Board of Directors shall:
A. Preside at all meetings of the HA-PTO and the HA-PTO Board of Directors.
B. Record and preserve in the books of the organization true minutes of the proceedings of all organizational meetings for the HA-PTO and the HA-PTO Board of Directors.
C. Make ready a copy of minutes to be present at all organizational meetings for the HA-PTO and the HA-PTO Board of Directors.
D. Maintain a copy of bylaws, attendance, membership list, and budget at all organizational meetings for the HA-PTO and the HA-PTO Board of Directors.
E. Perform all other duties as may be prescribed in these bylaws or assigned to him/her by the organization or by the executive board.
We are seeking a replacement for our Daddy Daughter Dance Committee Chair. This role requires the individual to coordinate with the PTO and school administration to plan and implement the event. Historically, the chairperson will book the photographer and DJ this time of year so it is important for us to fill this position ASAP.
Lastly, we are seeking a chairperson for our Birthday Marquee fundraiser. This role requires the chairperson to advertise the Birthday Marquee through social media and skyward. The flyer is already created, as well as the email address. Everything is ready for you to seamlessly take over. You would coordinate the inquiries, change the sign weekly, and communicate with the PTO board as necessary.
If you are interested in any of the volunteer opportunities, please contact the PTO at PTO.hollyacademy@gmail.com.
