Dangerous Beauty, Herskovitz, 1998
In this film, we follow the story of Veronica Franco (1546-1591), a cortigiana onesta (an honest courtesan) in the mid to late 1500's in Venice, who became a well-known writer interacting with leading intellectuals of the time. Veronica Franco's life suggests both the possibilities and limitations for an educated woman in Renaissance Italy. The film is based on the non-fictional book, The Honest Courtesan, by Margaret Rosenthal.
