Girard Intermediate School
August 2022
Principal's Message
As a school, we have many exciting opportunities for students to learn, grow, and flourish as individuals and as students. I look forward to embarking on the 2022-2023 school year with our Girard families and our students.
Each month, a GIS newsletter will be sent via text to families. These newsletters have important information about the school and events that will take place. This will be the only month this newsletter will be mailed home. In order to receive the newsletter each month, subscribe to text notifications. The directions are in the newsletter. Please read and reference the newsletter each month.
Starting this year, our teachers will be departmentalized, which means that each teacher will only teach one subject. This also means students will follow a bell schedule and will change classes. Each student will have the opportunity to be with multiple grade-level teachers throughout the day and week. Students and families are invited to pick up their schedules and Meet the Teachers on Friday, Aug. 19. Please see the schedule below.
Again, I look forward to seeing all of you soon! Let's make this year the best yet!

ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL
Keeping our students safe in and out of school is a priority. In order to ensure our students are safe at arrival and dismissal, please adhere to the following safety guidelines when dropping your student off at school and picking them up in the afternoon.
1. One-way street: drive Eastbound on Forsythe toward Wellman
2. Students should only enter & exit the car on the passenger side to avoid going into the road
3. Pick up students at the designated cones. There are 6 cones that will be placed by the sidewalk. Students will enter cars from those 6 locations. Students will not cross the Prospect driveway and students will only enter cars at the cones (See the example picture)
4. Reiterate to kids that they need to be watching for their cars
5. Walkers will continue to be dismissed first in order to have students away from the school before vehicles start moving
6. Drivers cannot park at Prospect
7. Drivers do not exit the car
6. Walking students can only cross the street at the designated crosswalks
**Students MUST be watching for their vehicles - this will greatly improve our carline**
