Clover 5K - ways to help!
Ways you can help
- send e-mails to your friends inviting them to register
- post this link on social media https://runsignup.com/Race/OH/Hilliard/Clover5K
- previous participants can share a picture and a few words of their experience on social media
The 4-H Explorers 4-H Club is our "supporting" club. They are doing the behind the scenes prep to help make the day of the event go smoothly.
You can help by:
- Asking area businesses for donations for coupons or samples to put into the runner bags (target 200, but we can use any amount)
- Request from restaurants breakfast items like muffins, granola bars, fruit, coffee, bagels, etc...to have available for our runners. If you or another club member can pick those up on April 3 or early on the 4th to be available prior to race time, that works best.
- Seeking donations for gift cards. We like to give the age winners and overall winners something extra!
- Finding sponsors who would like to give a monetary donation.

Walk & Serve - Club Participation
Find out more online at 4hcouncil.org
Clubs learn about the non-profit, their clientele, mission, and how they support the community. Then they work with the non-profit to decide a hands-on project. The club works on preparing all of the supplies by seeking donations or purchasing the items. Members learn how to successfully complete the project. Clubs are provided with a station (set of tables) where they can set up. The club members teach the visitors from the community about the non-profit and how to complete the project.
In order to have your club set up a station, please contact Amy Fleshman to discuss the non-profit and project so we do not have overlapping efforts.
Here are the clubs and non-profits that have already committed:
- Buckeye Clover Express - Sam Bish Foundation
- Carousel Riders - American Cancer Society
- Change the World - TBD
- Clovers Forever - To Be Determined
- Golden Explorers - Operation Christmas Child
- Great Expectations, Franklin County Shooting Sports, & Country Blazers - MASH Food Pantry
- Grove City Clover Crew - Touching Little Lives
- Groveport Buttoneers - Columbus Center for Human Services, Inc.
- Fantastic Futures - Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Ohio
- Far East - Sunny Glen Wellness & Simply Living
- Liberty Bells - Birthright and Cancer Support Community
- Lucky Clovers - Buckeye Military Moms
- K-9 Wonderdogs - Gigi's Shelter for Dogs and Pawsavers
- Serendipity - Hilliard Food Bank
- Whetstone - Clintonville Community Resource Center
There IS room for more clubs. Reach out if you'd like to know more! We can discuss grant funding that is available to clubs if it is needed.
Here are some creative ways some clubs gather support for their station:
- ask for specific product donations from businesses (like 3-ring binders from the manufacturer, brown paper bags from a grocery store...)
- partner with a sales rep who wants to help (Thirty-One Gifts helped by selling a small bag that would be used as a pencil bag at cost and using the hostess earnings to help them stretch their efforts as far as possible. The club shared the opportunity to sponsor a bag for the non-profit on Facebook with the description of the project that would be completed. Enough funds were raised to purchase over 30 bags!)
- members take the donation letter to area businesses and seek funding support for their supplies
- use social media to request specific items needed and create a community connection
- members in the club had connections with people who had extra supplies collected at their home, who were willing to donate it due to the cause.
- advisor shared the impact reports from the previous year with a business who wanted to donate
Walk & Serve - Individual Participation
The event is open house style, so come anytime between 9:30 and noon!
There will also be a sign-up that will be sent closer to the event seeking volunteers to help arrange tables and other set-up needs.
Everyone can post the 4hcouncil.org site and ask people to join you in serving our community!
Advisor Testimonials
"We assigned each member to one of two shifts. Everyone had a job and saw how teamwork can provide everyone a sense of belonging. When they weren't serving at our club they were going to the other stations and learning about the various non-profits and helping with those projects. It was one of the best things we have ever done as a club."
"Our small club has participated every year. We walk as a club in the Clover 5K and then go to the Walk & Serve. It has become part of our culture and something that our members talk about and look forward to all year."
"It was amazing to see one of the shyest members of the club take such an interest learning about our non-profit and how to hep people complete the project. They really blossomed!"
"Our club's involvement provides us with an activity that has truly impacted our individual members and pulled us together as a club."
"I was surprised to find a non-profit at the event that could provide support and services to my family during a time that was very difficult."
