Triton Times
Eastlake Middle School 4.22.19
We are about to hit the testing season. Please make sure your child gets a good night rest, charges his/her Ipad and eats a good breakfast. We encourage students to bring their earbuds or headphones that has a cord for the testing period. We will test in Math and English. 8th graders will also test in Science. If you have any questions about testing, please contact Mr. Naferrete. Please be mindful of the following...
A. Do you golf? We are in desperate need of a foursome for the EEF golf tournament on April 26th. Please consider joining this great opportunity! The flyer is below.
B. California Health Kids Survey (7th Grade). This anonymous survey will be administered to students during PE on Monday/Tuesday. Students were given an opt out form in PE on Friday. If you do not wish for your student to take the survey then please fill out the form and return it with your student on Monday/Tuesday. For more information on the contents of the survey, please visit: http://equity.sweetwaterschools.org/culture-and-climate/. This data will give us insight on our school culture and climate from a student perspective.
C. District LCAP Meetings. We are requesting that parents please consider attending this event to be able to advocate for our schools. Please see the flyer below. We would like to have at least ten parents, students and staff members represent us! . We areTrustee Area 3 and the event will take place- May 8 (Eastlake High, EastLake Middle, Otay Ranch High, Olympian High, Rancho Del Rey Middle, East Hills Academy) at Olympian High Gymnasium
D. Promotion. Due to lack of credit recovery opportunities, for this year the Board will allow for a validation process whereas students who pass their second semester classes will receive credit for any past classes in that subject area(s) in which they did not pass. They will be allowed to participate in this year's ceremony. It's a great opportunity for our 8th grade students to buckle down and keep moving forward. We do not know the process for next year's class. I do have the right to review case by case situations that are unique. Please contact me with any concerns. (SEE FLYER BELOW)
We will have several meetings from now until June 5th about promotion. Our promotion will take place on June 5th at 5:00 PM at Otay Ranch High School. Attendance is limited by fire code and expect that each family will receive five tickets to the event. There will be a streaming video of the event. We are trying to secure shuttle services and creating special drop-off spots for Uber/Lyft. We will send more information home in the next few months.
There will also be several 8th grade events at the end of the year and school will still be open to 8th graders on the 6th and 7th.
E. Help (AP Testing ELH). If you have some time, ELH could use some help in administering AP exams. Please contact Johana Bielma (johana.bielma@sweetwaterschools.org) if you are willing and able. Please note that you cannot proctor for a class you teach or a test that your own child will be taking.

Triton Trait of the Month (Teamwork)
Teamwork!
We have all heard many of the inspiring words or belief systems around the concept of Teamwork -- Teamwork makes the dream work, There is no "I" in team, We > Me, If you want to go faster, go alone. If you want to go farther, go as a team, Together Everyone Achieves More. Indeed, many of us have been part of great teams through work, athletics, band and community organizations. At the heart of any team is the belief that everyone can contribute their own talents in a positive manner to better achieve goals. The most difficult part of being a great team member is surrendering the ego for a bigger cause. This month we celebrate those teachers and students who exemplify the concept of teamwork. Let's recognize those special individuals who do everything possible to help everyone succeed and is a great team member. They are selfless and promote others. Team Triton!
