K-12 Mobile Apps
EDUCATION 210: Module 9 Flex Lab
Mobile Apps for the 21st Century Classroom
This week, EDU 210 students were asked to explore 5 mobile apps that could be used in a K-12 classroom.
One Note
The One Note mobile app allows students to take notes in a format that looks similar to a traditional notebook. Students can also add screenshots, edit simultaneously, and make to-do lists using this app. For example, students could use this app to take notes during a Social Studies class and make a homework to-do list.
Grammarly
Grammarly helps students improve upon their grammar and written concision anytime, anywhere. For example, a grade 8 student could use the Grammarly app to help them write an English paper (i.e. Grammarly would help them write with more meaning and text concision).
Snagit
The Snagit app allows students to capture screenshots and videos. This app also affords students the opportunity to edit over their screenshots with notes, highlighting text, and other images for more clarity. For example, if a student were taking a blended Biology course in high school, this app could be used to capture relevant images during an online lecture and edit the image for further understanding.
One Drive
One drive allows students to sync their documents. For example, students would be able to make notes on their iPad for an English 9 class and have access to those notes on their laptop and other mobile devices as well.
Duolingo
Duolingo is an interactive app that gives courses in English, French, Spanish, German, Portugese and Italian. It can be used to supplement course instruction and help to further students understanding and language literacy. For example, if a student were taking French 20-1 and required more verbal fluency for an upcoming midterm exam, this student could use Duolingo to help develop their verbal French skills.
TED app
The Ted conference app gives individuals access to TED presentations and ideas circulating in the minds of educational innovators. A student, for example, may find this app useful in acquiring a broader understanding of a confusing science concept (e.g. depression and neurological networks). In other words, the TED app could lend a hand in providing further insight and inspiration into a given topic.
