The Buzz at Westbrook School
November 4, 2022
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
It was so nice to see so many parents at parent-teacher conferences this week. We are so thankful to our amazing PTO and parent volunteers who provided meals for the staff. Your generosity to our teachers and staff is greatly appreciated. We have one more evening of conferences next Thursday, November 10th.
Next week, we will hold the annual book fair presented by the PTO and our Library staff. Please plan to stop by Westbrook Monday, 11/7, through Friday, 11/11, from 4:30-7:30 PM to shop. We are grateful to all volunteers and families that will help make this year's book fair a success!
As we look ahead, I wanted to let you know that kindergarten and first-grade students will participate in a classroom presentation delivered by Lisa Ryno, School Social Worker, to educate in an age-appropriate way about childhood sexual abuse. These valuable presentations will teach students about personal safety, safe vs. unsafe touches, safety steps to follow if someone breaks the touching rule and good vs. bad secrets.
Erin’s Law mandates sexual abuse prevention education for public school children in Illinois. More information about Erin’s Law can be found here. The resources used for the first-grade presentation include It’s My Body by Lory Freeman and this video (we stop the video at 2:11). The book used for kindergarten is Your Body Belongs to You by Teri Weidner. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Lisa Ryno (LRyno@d57.org) if you have any follow-up questions.
For your children,
Danielle Crandall

We were so very sad that our Author Visit had to be cancelled this week.
Parents who purchased books to be autographed, please email Mrs. Capra (ccapra@d57.org) no later than Tuesday, 11/8/22 so she can reach out to Laurie Keller to personalize a bookplate for your child.
Thank you so much for understanding.
