In science we will complete our study over the changes of Earth’s surface. The students will complete assignments on weathering, erosion, and deposition and have to identify examples of each. The students will be given a study guide and play a jeopardy review game to help prepare for their test on Thursday.

We are beginning our reading for research unit. During this time, students are collaborating with other students and sharing their conclusions through presentation and publication. In order to be information literate, students must develop the fundamental skills and knowledge of inquiry and research. When preparing for a study of inquiry and research, students need to understand about:

  • Summarizing and synthesizing information
  • Demonstrating understanding of information
  • Crediting sources
  • Presenting information in categories
  • Focusing on the topic and including several aspects
  • Including facts, statistics, and examples

Social Studies

In 4th grade we’ll learn a more of a general survey of the Civil War as they go into greater detail in 5th grade. For this unit we focus more on the economics of Texas during this time and how Texas seceded from the union and that few actual battles were fought in Texas but they were a major source of revenue for the south due to shipping of cotton through the ports. After the war, we’ll discuss how Reconstruction changed the economy for many people and jobs in the railroad and cattle industry began to grow. Other highlights will include Juneteenth and how Texas under the Confederacy was another flag over Texas.

STAAR test dates:
