A Note From the Prinicpal

Happy Fall everyone!

It's difficult to believe the end of the first nine weeks is upon us already. Whether your are new to Mount Olive or a family who has been here awhile, I hope all of you have settled nicely into the school routine and are accessing information and resources as needed. There are so many ways to get plugged in, so please reach out to the office staff if you need anything at all. Our friendly secretaries are more than happy to help you get in touch with the right people and help you navigate any process.

The most exciting news as we head into October is that our brand new playground equipment is scheduled to arrive this week after a multi-week delivery delay. The KCS maintenance department plans to begin removal of the old equipment soon, so that installation of the new equipment can also begin shortly thereafter. We are beyond excited and super grateful for the PTO's fundraising efforts in support of this massive project! Stay tuned. We will send pictures soon.

I want to extend a huge THANK YOU for the Coupon Book efforts this year. Our students and families not only met our school-wide coupon book goal, but shattered it! We sold over 1200 coupon books, which means we will get to keep $12,000 + for Mount Olive. Students are very excited about our school-wide PJ, Game Day, & Snow cones this Friday in celebration of meeting that goal.

In closing, I look forward to sharing some additional details re: make up work support for families who are in quarantine or have extended absences due to illness. We will be offering some instructional time either before or after school to help your child get caught back up with school work and missed instruction. I will be sharing additional details after fall break.

I hope each of you enjoy a short break with your children. Stay healthy and safe out there.

Mrs. Harper

The staff and I are grateful for your kindness and patience during these days of transition.

Positive PBIS recognition: Mount Olive is a PBIS school (Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports). PBIS schools implement a host of positive and proactive behavior strategies to encourage good character traits in our students. You may have heard your child talk about our "PBIS Wall of Fame." They may even be on it! We recognize students weekly for POSITIVE office referrals. We have 4 expectations for our students... to be Safe, Organized, Accountable, and Respectful in all areas of our building. (SOAR acronym)

School Goals: We are continuing our work toward 3 school goals, which include 1.) Academic achievement in ELA 2.) Academic achievement in Math 3) Safe & Healthy School (with a specific focus on attendance, behavior, and communication) You can HELP us with our goals!

  • Getting your kids to school on time
  • Getting your kids to school unless they are ill
  • Supporting classroom teachers and administration with behavior and discipline
  • Keeping the lines of communication open, so we can work as a team to help your child succeed both academically and emotionally.

Classroom Goals: Our structure is growing! Classrooms continue to set CLASS GOALS and work toward earning a "brick" for our "Future Leaders Under Construction" structure. Be sure to ask your child what goal(s) his/her class has completed and/or is currently working on. The foundation is being built. Check out the latest snapshot below.
