Highlights of Our Week
Readers' Workshop:
- During Readers' Workshop, we read and discussed The Mysterious Tadpole. As we read, we discussed the story's structure. We depicted the characters, setting, and the plot. We reviewed that the plot contains the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Also, the plot usually contains a problem and a solution.
- To help us learn more about the rain forest, we read and discussed Come on Into the Rainforest by Judy Nayer. Prior to reading the story, we completed a class KWL ~ What we Know, Want to know, and Learned about the rain forest. . After reading, we wrote about 2 interesting facts we learned about the rainforest as well as depicted some of the rain forest animals.
- We also read and discussed The Kapok Tree by Lynn Cherry. We then used our mapping skills to determine places all over the world that grow Kapok Trees!
Writers' Workshop:
- As writers', we learned more about the layers of the rain forest. Did you know the rain forest has four layers? Do you know the names of each layer? Well 2Mu learned the rain forest has four layers; the Emergent, Canopy, Understory, and Forest Floor. Each student researched and wrote about a layer in the rain forest and colored a matching picture for their layer.
Mathematicians:
- As mathematicians, we learned about representing money in equivalent ways by using different coins.
- We also completed an Open Response in which we had to use Ballpark Estimates to purchase 3 items totaling as close to $100 without going over! Then, we had to explain our mathematical thinking. We loved the challenge!!
- During Grammar, we learned about Contractions. We played Kahoot to help us reinforce our skills with forming and writing contractions.

- We completed our study of Haddonfield.
- A few of our classmates presented their Flat Lizzy Projects! We are amazed about all the historical sites Flat Lizzy visited!
