The Spencer Scoop

The Amazing Spencer Elementary: November 5, 2021

Do Not Send Your Child to School If...

Spencer has recently received an increase in positive COVID cases. You can help keep all safe with a few easy steps:

If your child has any illness symptoms such as,

  • Fever over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Other early symptoms, including chills, body aches, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, headache, diarrhea, and nausea/ vomiting.

Stay home!

Other reasons to remain home:
If someone in your home has recently tested for COVID-19, keep everyone home until the results are in. If a positive test is revealed, everyone in-home needs to remain home for the full ten days.

Then, please call 810-299-4350 and let us know. You'll also want to complete the self-reporting link. The sooner this is done, the sooner Mr.Renner can process the paperwork.

The health department will notify Mr.Renner and share with him a return date for your child.

Please be diligent and do your part to keep all at Spencer safe.

Reminders About Drop Off Procedures

  1. Do not drop off your child before 8:40 a.m. The classrooms will not be opened before this time.

  2. When entering the kiss-n-go area, have your child and their belongings ready to exit the car. Remain in your vehicle and have your child exit from the passenger side. Children and adults should never get out of the driver’s side while in the kiss-n-go lanes.

  3. Please pull all the way forward and then stop to let your child out.

  4. After dropping off your child, wait for the cars in front of you to exit. Do not try to pass, as it puts students in danger.

  5. After 9 a.m. the kiss-n-go lane will be closed and you must park and walk your child to the main office to sign-in.

One last thing...if you are dropping your child off after the bell rings, you MUST walk them up to the building and sign them in on the iPad outside the office. NO student should be walking up to the building unattended by an adult.

Forgotten Items

We all have those mornings when an item is forgotten at home. When this happens, you can drop it off in one of the cubby bins outside the office. There is a small note pad for you to fill out with student's name, teacher's name and time it was dropped off, then we will get it down to your student.

If you would like to schedule a conference with one of the Specials Teachers, please e-mail them to plan a time to sit down and discuss how your child is doing in Art, Music or P.E.

Their names and email addresses are below...

Lisa Hiatt - Art (

Bonnie Muszynski - Music (

Jennifer Peters - Physical Education (

Lost & Found

The smaller bin is now holding forgotten water bottles & lunch items. All items will be donated after November 19th so come and check it out if you are missing any items. Some are pictured below...

Turn Mr. Renner into a Sundae Day

Today was the BIG DAY! Mrs. Phillips' 1st graders got to turn Mr. Renner into an ice cream sundae! Each student was able to dump sticky, gooey goodness all over their favorite Principal. Look for the link below to view the fun!

Book of the Month Club

The Book of the Month books are delayed! October, November, AND December books have been ordered, however, we are seeing huge wait times on deliveries. Turning Mr. Renner Into an Ice Cream Sundae!

The Ice-Creaming of Mr. Renner was awesome this morning!! Thank you to our fabulous PTO for supplying all of the toppings (and cleaning up the mess), to Mrs. Phillips' class for turning Mr. Renner into an amazing looking sundae, and to Mr. Renner for his generosity, kindness, and hilarity to allow the students to decorate him in gooeyness! Here are the links to view the video and the pictures from this morning. *Note to self for future reference when live streaming a Google Meet...the background noise was turned off, so the volume is not great on here. I should've kept the background noise on, which was where the excitement was taking place. Sorry about that!! -Mrs. Richards

Note From the Counselor

Counselor Corner!

Hello from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! I have very much enjoyed our start to a great school year. I spent the month of September visiting classrooms for a social-emotional lesson centered around forming connections with peers and strengthening friendships. I have also increased visits with individual students needing social-emotional support. I am working hard to add some peer support groups by the end of the month! As the year progresses, I am continuing to connect with classroom teachers for referrals for students who are struggling or may need additional support. If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.

We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact your counselor with any questions or concerns that you may have, and Mrs. Fox or Mrs. McKiddy will do their best to support your child.

Mrs. McKiddy
