Be Prepared.... Think Ahead
Outside playtime is a very important part of the total elementary school program. Pendleton Elementary students have outside recess when the temperature is above 20 F (adjusted for wind chill), unless inclement weather, or a safety concern exists. Please make sure your child is dressed for the colder weather.

School Counselor's Corner
Parents,
This week our Project Care focus was on the Character Trait of Fairness. Many times students can avoid conflicts or problems with other students if they make sure that they are always trying to be fair. If they do get into a conflict or disagreement when playing a game, it will help if they learn how to settle it peacefully and fairly. For example, if they are playing a game of tag and someone they tagged doesn’t agree, instead of arguing, they should do a quick game of rock, paper, scissors to decide the fate of the situation. Please follow-up on this message at home by discussing with your student your views on fairness and letting them explain their views. A very important concept for students to learn, but it does take time, is that what is fair to one person may seem unfair to another. These situations are when a student needs to practice empathy, trying to understand what it would be like in another person’s shoes. Something else you can do to follow-up is when there is a conflict between children, help guide them through the process of solving it peacefully and if that doesn’t work, teach them rock, paper, and scissors.
Until next week......
