Board Briefs

March 30, 2020

In order to comply with Governor Pritzker's Stay-At-Home order due to COVID-19, the District 109 Board of Education held the 3/30 Board of Education Meeting virtually. No one was onsite at the District Center, our regular meeting location. Members of the public could listen to the meeting by calling a designated number. For open/community participation we created a dedicated voicemail line for public comment.

We expect to follow the same procedures for our April 20 Board of Education meeting.

Thank you for your flexibility during this time and please stay well.

Superintendent's Report

Dr. McConnell discussed the current situation facing the District and its staff and families caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The District has been operating our eLearning plan since March 16th and feedback has been positive. Our teachers, staff, students, and families are going out of their way to adjust to this new reality. Dr. McConnell thanked Districts 112 and 113 for their partnership. Dr. McConnell also thanked the Village of Deerfield, the Deerfield Park District, the Deerfield Police and Fire Departments, and the public library for their dedication and support during this time.

For more information and to access communications and resources please visit the District’s extended closure resource page.

Superintendent's Search Process

The Board was joined at the meeting by School Exec Connect consultants, Dr. Ben Martindale and Dr. Linda Yonke, to discuss the process for identifying an interim superintendent and the timeline for the permanent superintendent search process. More information will be coming from the Board by the end of the week on the process.

Auditorium Bid Results

The Board was presented with bid proposals for construction on the Caruso auditorium project. Although there were appropriate bids within the estimated project range, the Board has decided to delay any action for the time being. The COVID-19 pandemic has created numerous uncertainties and the Board felt it was best to discuss it again when the pandemic is over.
