What an INCREDIBLE Jog a thon event put on by our PTA! Every time I think Penngrove couldn't get any better, it does! I am so proud to be a part of this sweet, dedicated school community. The love and care for our students is evident in so many ways, and this was one very clear expression of that!

This week, our PBIS team spent a day in training and focusing on how to make our school a place where all students feel they are safe and where they belong. We have a lot of small tweaks we're making to the already established practices at Penngrove. PBIS is not so much of a "program" as it is a mind-set shift utilizing the things we already do as caring educators. Please see the PBIS "corner" below, and in the coming weeks.

Stay awkward, brave and kind!

Question of the week from Principal Harp

Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)

What is something at school you're looking forward to?

One of the goals of PBIS is that 80% of students know our 3 expectations. Ask your student what the three Penngrove expectations are (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible) and see if they can give you an example of each for a particular area. See the graphic below for reference. Click to enlarge.

To say we are STUNNED would be an understatement. This community never fails to rise to the challenge we put forth, and this year- there are no words. You didn't just smash our goal of $95K, but you demolished it! It is almost incomprehensible what our Panthers were able to raise this year for Penngrove Elementary. It is a true testament to the love we all have for this little country school.

From the all of us on the Board of the Friends of Penngrove PTA, #TeamPenn, and of course all of the Panthers- we thank you. For your support both in donations and in your time, we are truly humbled!

More announcements to come regarding jog- such as top class earners, top donation earners and more!

Hello Penngrove community! We are excited to officially introduce the Class of 2023 to you. This group of 62 sixth grade students are excited to fundraise for their outdoor education camp and 6th grade activities. It is a legacy that all Penngrove Panthers will embark on and we rely on our awesome community to help make the magic happen.

We fundraise as a group to provide the opportunity for every student to attend camp and all related 6th grade activities. This is the biggest class of 6th graders Penngrove has seen in over a decade :) So our fundraising number is a big one (it’s around $35,000) this year.

In the upcoming months, we will be providing opportunities for families to support the Class of 2023. Our goal is to provide a variety of options with our fundraising efforts. There is never any pressure to participate…even just a wave to the kiddos as they work on their marketing skills with signs in the parking lot or communication skills while volunteering will be awesome!

As a reminder, our fundraising is separate from the PTA Jog-a-thon fundraiser.

If you have any questions, please reach out to us at pennoutdoored@gmail.com.

Thank you for cheering on the Class of 2023 and continuing the legacy of Panthers supporting Panthers!

Alexis Enriquez and Melissa Morelli

Wow things are moving fast out in the garden! We have had Pizza Garden Parties, Gulf Fritillary hatching, tomato tastings, and we are planting our fall garden. We are wrapping up our butterfly studies and moving into nutrition studies. I do need some simple supplies please look (here) for a list of what we need it is all stuff you probably have in your recycle bin at home!! Thanks for your continued support and enthusiasm for our school garden program. I have received donations from my "things to buy me list," had amazing parent volunteer participation and most importantly the students are learning and enjoying their time out in the garden. Thank all you so much!!

You can always check out my "things to buy me" list here: https://www.thingstogetme.com/376032a85350 If you would like to support the garden but don’t have time to volunteer.

And I also have a fundraising opportunity you will get beautiful bulbs and we will get 50% your purchase price. Please check out our Flower Power Fundraiser at our personalised webpage here: http://PenngroveGardenProgram.fpfundraising.com

Get outside with your students and try to see the world through their eyes. I am reminded as we come up to the change of the season from summer to fall how quickly time passes and to focus on what really matters which if you ask me is quality time being present with children in nature!

This year Penngrove will be working with Safe Routes to School, a Sonoma County initiative to get students and families to walk, bike, roller skate, etc., to school in order to increase daily movement, encourage environmental awareness and improve traffic situations at schools. We know this has been a challenge at Penngrove due to the nature of the roads surrounding our school, so we are going to be taking a look at any and all small, or even big, improvements we can make to support these efforts at our site. Safe Routes to School offers monthly challenges, in which students can submit their work and win prizes, family bike workshops, classroom education and more! We are very excited to be partnering with this incredible program this year!

September Challenge!

Choose a "green way: to get to school, or around your neighborhood: walk, bike, scoot, skate! Choose a safe route- use multi-use paths or low-traffic, low speed neighborhood streets; choose streets that have bike lanes or shoulders.
