2019 Blaze Bulletin
Week of January 14th - Edition 47
Dear teachers,
We have received information on which of our students will be zoned to Rockvale, and we are now asking seniors and BCA students if they wish to remain at Blackman (rising seniors and all current BCA students may stay if their parents agree and if they provide transportation). This will be a difficult time for some of our students, and I'm asking all of us to be positive about the changes that some will be making! Make sure they know that we will be helping to take care of them as the registration process begins soon. We will let you know the schedule as soon as we know. We will also be working closely with Rockvale during this time. The link for checking where addresses are zoned can be found below:
We should also know within a couple of weeks about our numbers for next year and staffing. Again, as soon as I know anything, I'll let you know.
Thanks for taking care of our kids,
-lj
GO BLAZE!
Daniel Winters was an awesome kid. He always had a big smile on his face and was always the first one to make a new wrestler feel like a welcomed part of the team. He was great at giving others a sense of belonging.
Then, one February morning, he passed away in a terrible car crash. His wrestling team and coaches and teachers and friends at school were devastated. Those who didn't know him were touched as well. The death of a teen is something that rocks a school.
Daniel's teammates rode in the funeral procession in the orange Blaze bus, right behind Daniel. Daniel's mom asked that the procession from the church to the burial ground go past Blackman High. You see, Daniel loved Blackman. At the designated time, all students from Blackman High and Blackman Middle were allowed to go outside and line the street as the procession passed.
Silence.
1500+ BHS students and teachers and 1000+ BMS students and teachers lined the street. As the bus and Daniel passed, there was complete.... silence.
Even after, walking back into the building, students and adults cried and held on to each other, and remained....silent.
That silence meant Respect. It meant Consideration. Courtesy. Deference. Understanding. The school that Daniel loved, loved him back.

The Child Find mandate, included in the IDEA, requires schools to seek out, identify, and evaluate all youth (ages 3–22) with disabilities, whether or not they are homeless or enrolled in public or private school, regardless of the severity of their disability.
