Counseling with Ms. Lundy
Congrats to our Leadership Trait winner, Alijah Alexander! This month, our Leadership Trait is Self-Control, which means that you choose what you should do, not what you want to do. You can show self-control by being a good listener, following directions without reminders, and allowing others to speak without interrupting. Please be sure to talk to your child about Self-Control at home, and help them complete their Tic-Tac-Toe Board to be placed in a drawing to be rewarded with a special treat!
Thank you!!!
WHAT IS RED RIBBON WEEK?
It is a way for students to unite and take a visible stand against substance abuse. Students show their personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon.

Here is how we are celebrating....
Monday, Oct. 30...”RED”-Y to live a drug-free life! Wear red today.
Tuesday, Oct. 31...Book Character day! Dress up like your favorite book character.
Wednesday, Nov. 1...Don’t be tricked, drugs keep you out of the game! Wear your favorite sports team clothing.
Thursday, Nov. 2...Don’t get tied down with drugs! Wear tie dye.
Friday, Nov. 3...I’m too bright for Drugs! Wear your GLO for it shirt and other brightly-colored gear.
Physical Education with Mr. Abel and Mr. Sylvester
Hello CCES families,
We just finished up our Soccer Unit. The students learned about control dribbling and speed dribbling. We also covered passing and shooting on goal. We played a modified game using multiple balls for lots of action called Sideline Soccer. We read aloud in grades K-3 “K is for Kick-A Soccer Alphabet” and discussed a variety of soccer topics.
October will bring us into Volleyball skills for grades 3-5 like passing (bump & set), serving, spiking, & blocking. K-2 skills will include striking different ways with balloons and beach balls.
The last week of October is Red Ribbon Week. This year’s theme is “Don't get caught in the web of drugs.” We will discuss age appropriate ways to keep our bodies healthy and drug free.
WELLNESS TIP:
Cooler temperatures are no excuse to let your health and wellness fall by the wayside. Fall is a great time to take advantage of some of the highlights of the season, from incorporating seasonal fruits and vegetables into your diet to kicking your fitness routine up a notch with fall-friendly activities.
Art with Mrs. Steffensen and Mrs. Miller
CCES Artists are busy finishing up the masterpieces that will be included in our Art Show gallery. Hope you’re planning to join us the evening of Tuesday, December 5th for our Evening of the Arts. Each student will have a professionally framed artwork included in the Art Show. The framing will be available for purchase that evening for $25. All proceeds go directly to purchasing art supplies for our students. More information to come.
We’re excited to start Unit 2 of our Art Curriculum! Kindergarten, First and Second Grades will begin working with clay. Printmaking will be our focus in Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades. It’s always rewarding to see our student artists utilizing their previous art knowledge in new and innovative ways.
CCES staff members spent some time in the Art Room during our recent Teacher Workdays. Our goal was to create messages of positivity to be posted throughout our school. The time spent together did our hearts good!
Music with Mr. DeStefano and Mrs. Williams
We have finished our unit on Beat and Rhythm and Meter and ready to transition into Melody and Harmony. Students in Kindergarten will be learning about how sounds can be high and low and how melodies can move upward and downward. First grade and Second grade students will be developing their melody reading skills through singing games. Third grade will be composing melodies using the full pentatonic (five tone) scale. Fourth grade will be starting up recorders once again and developing their abilities to read notes on the music staff. Fifth graders are excited to start playing ukuleles! We will be learning how to read TAB notation to pluck melodies and read chord charts to strums chords while we sing.
Second graders have been hard at work learning music for their concert "The Tale of Itchy Coo and the Owl." The Second Grade Concert will be on Tuesday, November 7th at 6:30 PM. Please look for more information to come home soon.
