Donatello
Life Story
Donatello was born on 1386 in Florence, Italy. Well his real name is Niccolo Bardi which back then he was a relative to a very high up important leader also last name Bardi. Though Donatello's family when he was growing up we're plebeians which meant he was really just middle class. Now when he could've got away from his family he decided to stay in Florence and that's where he did most of his art work although he visited Rome and all these great places where he completed new art pieces("Encyclopedia of World Biography)Gale"). So Donatello from the start thrived greatness, he was a trainee under Lorenzo Ghiberti as a goldsmith. This is where the doors for the Florence Baptistery were being built which is huge at this time("World Eras)Norman.J.Wilson"). Donatello was a sculpture which he did very well. He had three big known master pieces the St. John the Evangelist, St. George, and the Zuccone were just three of his sculptures("Encyclopedia of World Biography)Gale"). Donatello's patrons was Cosimo De Medici("The Sculpture of Donatello)H.W Janson"). Donatello really focused on humanism and individualism. I think this because he made a lot of sculptures of just humans which goes to individualism and also to humansim because most of his sculptures have to do with humans.
Winged Child
The name of this piece is winged child. Donatello made this in the Middle Ages at around Ca. 1440. You can find this sculpture today at the Metropolitan museum of art. The thing so significant about this piece is that this is one of the first and more popular human sculptures. There were a lot of new techniques like a standing sculpture of a human was not too easy to accomplish but he did. I really like this piece myself. The was he sculptured the winged child just looked so graceful and good while it was there. Also the gold painted on him just added to the affect and made it look even better. I would relate this to individualism because the artwork was just a single kid standing on it own here. Also because it's the closest to individualism because it represents the kid. I found this piece so interesting because the other ones were just so boring with old people but the one was irregular and also painted in gold which took my eye. You can find this picture on
