Starting to think about summer?
A few people have asked, so let's start thinking about this. I know it is normal to offer some voluntary things kids can do over the summer. You, of course, aren't putting out weekly packets or lessons in the summer. Cut that off by June 19th :) but some students have access at home without our devices or hotspots, and here are some things you can suggest.
Most of the things they had BEFORE distance learning they will continue to have. There is a short period of time, usually early Aug, when Mel has to roll accounts over to the new year, but in general, kids have had all the access they want in the summer.
Brain Pop, Newsela, Moby Max, Typing Club, Kids A-Z, and stuff that is always free, like Flipgrid. Seesaw we will need to archive classes the end of July to prepare for the new year, but they will have it all of July.
BUT--- the things we have for free right now due to generosity of vendors--- there isn't really a way to be sure. Screencastify, ST Math, Happy Numbers, a variety of others I might not even know about that you have decided to use on your own... those freebies will expire at the will of the vendor.

The May FLIPGRID Challenge was AWESOME!
Want to see the whole grid? CLICK HERE and sign in with your google account. If you just want to see a bit of each, the video below might be just the thing!
"Liz, that was fun! Is there a JUNE challenge? Flipgrid is fun and it's a great way to stay in community with people I don't see every day anymore."
Oh my gosh, I can't believe you think so too (except I can) and YES there IS a June Challenge!
Check out the June board here, and leave a video. Might as well go sign into COAST and get points for doing it. Either way, don't miss out!

If you haven't been to Mission Control site yet, why not? Go check it out, where have you been? :). Launch info in the PREFLIGHT menu, training resources in the BLAST OFF menu, and TEACHER RESOURCES galore to check out. bit.ly/hesdmission20

Ask someone who is playing what they have learned so far... teachers, administrators, classified, they're in the game! It's fun and fits into the pockets of time you might have available through out the day.
So, let's see who our first two pizza winners are! Watch the 1 minute video below to find out!
Is it you? (spoiler, it's not if you haven't played, but it could be next week!)
Email me if you won, and tell me what kind of pizza and when you want it this week! We'll take care of the rest!
Who won pizza this week? Watch this!

Any Harry Potter fans out there?
The videos are put into a Google Slide presentation that you can share with your students (bit.ly/hesdhp20).
Don't share it like "share button" share it. Just give them the link. bit.ly/hesdhp20 (get it? HESD--- hp for Harry Potter--- 20 for the year)
SOOOOO, here is how it will work---
- Tell you students the link bit.ly/hesdhp20 in your Google Classroom, Seesaw, Remind etc. (this can NOT be posted on social media-- per Rowling's terms)
- There will be a chapter a day posted in the slides--- same link
- Students will need to be signed into their google account to see the slides (again, Rowling's terms)
- ENJOY THE READ ALOUD!
It was very generous of JK Rowling and her publisher to allow this and there are some parameters we are doing our best to respect, hoping you respect her terms, too. So, share the link with your students and know that the videos will be deleted the end of June. This is an end-of-year summer fun kind of thing.
There you go--- one thing to make June special! Thank you to the 17 people (not just teachers) in Hueneme who are reading a chapter! This should take us right up to the end of the year with 2 days to spare.

THIS IS IMPORTANT--- leaving this privacy policy reminder one more week for you
Student privacy matters (like, it legally matters because it is CA law).
We can NOT have students create accounts on websites or apps when the privacy policy isn't compliant with the law.
Please PLEASE reach out to me before starting something new and creating student accounts or entering student data into a service. It is convenient when they can use the Google button, but that doesn't make it okay for them to do it. FOR EXAMPLE--- Quizizz is awesome, and students can take your quizzes, but they can't create accounts to make their own quizzes.
I want you to have the good stuff! I didn't ask to be privacy policy police, but I want our school activities to follow the parameters of the law, so I'm doing the research work for you.

Getting Student information from Q
it might be helpful to get student contact info etc.
In Q, go to MENU---ENROLLMENT---REPORTS---STUDENT DIRECTORY
Check the options you want to see, and you can CREATE the report to get one view, or you can EXPORT the report to get a spreadsheet you can manipulate.
Either way, the data is right there for you. Might be helpful if you find you keep logging into Q everytime you need a phone number.
As always, please be a protector of student information. Watch where you leave print outs and store/share digital files.

Some Tech Tips
Accounts can be tricky!
If you are not sure how you or your students sign into something, click the button below and take a look. Might help clarify things for you.
Please refer people to the Distance Learning Help Desk
As a reminder, the proxy popups are gone in many many cases, but if they come up again, thank you for not panicking, but just reminding them to choose NOT NOW, or restart the device.
Speaking of RESTARTING
