ISASP-Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress
You should have all received your child's 2-page performance summary of the first ever ISASP results. The district and building results have been reviewed by school administration, the PCM school board, building level teacher leadership teams and individual classroom teachers. The new ISASP reports do not provide the same ways of reporting the scores as the old assessment.
Overall, the PCM ISASP results of our district were at, above or very similar to the state of Iowa results in most grades/content areas.
2018-2019 PCE Results by Percent Proficient
Grade 3 English-Language Arts 66% Mathematics 83%
Grade 4 English-Language Arts 71% Mathematics 69%
Grade 5 English-Language Arts 71% Mathematics 59% Science 43%
Another trend that was noted was that the overall proficiency levels of the new ISASP in all grades and content areas were lower than in previous Iowa Assessment results. This was a common theme for many districts across the state. This means although PCM performed similar to the state, the overall proficiencies may have dropped statewide. This is due to the increased rigor of both the content that was being assessed as well as the new format of the ISASP test (no longer multiple choice and was done on the computer).
PCM is already studying and focusing on learning how to unpack the Iowa Core standards with an emphasis on teaching with increased rigor focusing on the depth of knowledge that is assigned to each standard. We look forward to our focus on continuous improvement to provide higher levels of rigor for our students!
