Principal's Message
Dear Hays High School Parents & Students,
As the start of school gets closer, my staff is working hard to make sure the start of school goes smoothly. Even though the first day will look a lot different than in year’s past, one thing that has not changed... kids are excited about school starting!
As a learning community, Hays High School is committed to preparing your students to be successful in college and career after high school. No matter if your student is headed to the University of Texas or to a tech or trade school after graduation, we are committed to helping them create the best versions of themselves. Each of our 2,300 students has a dream and a future, and we are here to help them get there. We will continue to offer a variety of quality extra-curricular programs and classes that challenge, engage and involve our students. Even though we are in a unique situation this year, our focus is still on the end game!
Thank you for your support of our school! I am starting my 12th year as the leader of this great school. I still get excited to come to work everyday, I care about our kids and we will continue to do everything in our power to help them achieve their dreams. If you have any questions about this newsletter or Hays High School, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
David R. Pierce
Principal, Hays High School
Grading for fall 2020
It is important for students and parents to know that once we begin instruction, we will return to our normal grading policy. No matter if kids are virtual or in person, the expectations are the same. Students are expected to be on-line (or in person), submitting assignments and participating on the first day of instruction. It is important to know that students will be assigned numerical grades for both in-person and online learning The assignment of Pass or Incomplete (P/I) will no longer be used In Hays CISD. CLICK HERE for more info.
Senior Yearbook Photo Updates
We have additional time slots scheduled. The dates are September 3rd & 4th at Hays High School Click here to sign up Senior Yr.Book Picture sign up
If you are not able to secure a time, we will schedule additional times at a later date through our photo vendor (Lifetouch). With almost 800 seniors this year, we know we will need additional times/dates. Some of those dates will include sessions when we return to “in person learning” later in the semester.
Senior events 2020-21
We are working to make sure our seniors have a great year! We must consider safety first in every decision, we have no other option. Our kids are that important. I would encourage everyone to be upbeat and not spread the word that their senior year has been ruined. It is way too early to make that prediction! Our kids will feed off of our energy either positive or negative.
This newsletter will always have the most updated and accurate information on school events, including senior events. We know things can't be as they always have been. Our senior leadership team has been meeting to brainstorm what we can do vs. what we can’t do for our seniors.
Our 12th grade Assistant Principal this year is Ms. Tonya Kallfelz. She can be reached at (512) 268-2911 ex46226 or tonya.kallfelz@hayscisd.net
