Black History Month
This month we are recognizing the importance of Black History month, which takes place throughout the entire month of February. What is Black History Month? Well, it is a month dedicated to the remembrance and education of important black figures and events throughout history. Chosen by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALAH), the theme of Black History Month for 2021 is “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity”. Institutions such as the ASALAH and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture are offering online interactive activities for those at home. For more information, click here.
Here at NPHS, we want to ensure that every student has the opportunity to be included, and to educate themselves about important topics such as these. Throughout the month, the @newburyparkpanthers Instagram will feature posts about important black people and describe their contribution to history.
We hope everyone takes this time to reflect on the importance of the black community and celebrate diversity on our campus.
Check out some of our recent Instagram posts below.

5-Star Points + Prizes
All year, thus far, so many of you have been participating in dress-up days and Friday challenges to earn 5-Star points, but what are all of these points for you may ask. Here is an explanation of 5-Star and the various prizes you can win! (You should check it out because you could win an Apple Watch!)
5-Star is an incentive-based program that allows students to compete for prizes based on the number of points they earn. Pretty much 5-Star is a program we use to see who has the most school spirit! Students earn points by getting involved with the school, and these points count towards school-wide competitions. Each individual student will be competing in a student competition, along with the grade levels competing against each other. At the end of the First Semester, the top 10 students will win a Hydro Flask! At the end of the year, the top three students will win an Apple watch and 5-Star sweatshirt, and the top grade level will get a prize for all of the students within that level. The first-place student and grade level will be marked on a banner that will be hung up at NPHS! Earning points is super easy. Dress up on Fridays for our weekly dress-up days, participate in ASG challenges, and check-in with ASG for upcoming events where you can earn points! Follow the ASG Instagram (@newburyparkpanthers) or get in contact with an ASG member to stay updated! To keep track of your points and the leaderboards, download the 5-Star Students app and use your six-digit ID to log in. Click the person icon at the top of the menu to find the number of points you have and the grade level leaderboard.

The Wellness Room was designed to connect students and parents to calming activities and tools to promote well-being. They have many different things available such as puzzles, creative activities, mindfulness, journaling tips and prompts, as well as links to animal cams so you can watch your favorite zoo animals! They also outline the many ways in which you can get extra support when needed, and provide a list of hotlines to call, and ways to schedule an appointment to meet with a counselor if desired. This is a safe space to take a break, rest, and refocus. Click HERE to check it out.
