Welcome Back to School!

We are ready for a great year of mathematics teaching and learning! Be sure to check out the new components on your curriculum maps. The Related Content Standards will assist you in making connections to prior knowledge explicit for your students. The prerequisite standards can also help you with differentiation strategies. Building strong conceptual understandings during a unit will support students in developing procedural fluency. Use the Conceptual Understanding to Procedural Fluency component to assess how your students are moving toward the targeted standards.

Teams of teachers worked this summer and are continuing to add to the Fluency Practice folders. These activities are opportunities for students to connect written practice to the games and routines with which they have engaged.

Coherence Across Standards and Grade Levels

New Interactive Progressions Site

Achieve the Core has released a new coherence map which shows the connections between and among the mathematics standards. You can view prior grade level standards, related upcoming standards, and connected standards within the grade level. This will be a critical tool in identifying gaps in prerequisite understandings and for supporting within grade level supports for the major work.

Check out this new resource for you to share with parents!

This summer the math coaches worked on developing a support site for parents. Teachers will also find many of the resources useful as well. You can share this site at curriculum night, family math nights or during teacher conferences. You can link this site to your own website or add it to your newsletters. The site is "growing" so keep checking back to see new additions!

APLUS Grant Continues!

Our APLUS Grant continues this year supporting schools with student licenses for AMC, offering professional development for our new K-2 and EC teachers, and purchasing additional materials for classrooms.

The grant also offered stipends last spring for teacher teams to come in and work on developing plans and organizing materials. Our new fluency practice experiences were developed this summer by teacher teams and funded by our APlUS grant.

Please continue to support each other as you implement the AMC assessment cycles and make use of the excellent resources that we have been able to offer our students. All K-2 teachers and students are now active in the AMC system. Special Education teachers will now be able to assess the students they serve and collaborate with the regular education teachers. Way to go APLUS Cohorts 1 to 4 and Welcome to Cohort 5!!!
