When you walk into Gretchko Elementary School, you automatically get the sense that it is an amazing place for young learners to be. There is an air of excellence both in the students and in the staff. Without question, this is the direct result of Principal Sally Drummond’s leadership. Sally’s professionalism is unparalleled, and her passion for ensuring that all of our learners have the very best opportunities and experiences is truly inspiring. Tens of thousands of WBSD’s learners have been lucky enough to feel the impact of Sally Drummond for the past 52 years. That is right: 52 years! She was a classroom teacher and reading consultant for 26 years at Doherty, Green, and Scotch Elementary Schools. Sally then opened Gretchko Elementary School and has been the principal there for 26 years, developing it into the excellent school we all know and value. When Sally recently shared with us that she will be retiring at the conclusion of this school year, we were in absolute shock. It is impossible to imagine Gretchko Elementary School and the West Bloomfield School District without her leadership.
Sally’s leadership will be greatly missed. We realize that this is a lot for our community to process. This is also a lot for Sally to process. Leaving the place she loves will not be easy. The more she talks about this being her last year, the more challenging it is for all of us to cope with it. As we move closer to the end of the year, let’s honor Sally’s phenomenal accomplishments by finishing this year in the best way possible: by living in the moment and focusing on the great things that are happening right now at Gretchko Elementary School.
