Cliffwood School Parent Newsletter
May 2019
Principal's News
Dear Cliffwood School families,
Can you believe that it's May already? The weather outside is beautiful and our school year is rapidly nearing its end. It's also time to start thinking about next school year and that means registering new learners to attend Cliffwood in the Fall. If you are planning to have your child attend Cliffwood School for the first time next year, please complete the registration process as soon as possible. It is very important that you register as soon as you can and follow all steps in the process. Important info about the registration process can be found on our district's website by clicking here. New registrations are done by appointment only and take place at Central Office, not at the school. Be sure to read the website info and contact Ms. Torres, our district registrar, with any questions at 732-705-4000 or email at registrar@marsd.org. Following all registration steps will ensure that your child has a smooth and successful start to his/her school year! Thanks and have a great Spring!
Summer hours for Cliffwood
Our new sensory path is awesome!
Getting smart about screen time for children
Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) released guidelines around healthy habits and screen time for young people. You can read the WHO's guidelines by clicking here. One main point from the article reads, "If healthy physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep habits are established early in life, this helps shape habits through childhood, adolescence and into adulthood...Quality sedentary time spent in interactive non-screen-based activities with a caregiver, such as reading, storytelling, singing and puzzles, is very important for child development."
3rd grade concert a HUGE success!
We are super Cliffwood Proud of our 3rd graders who did an awesome job at their annual concert. It was a packed house at Cliffwood and all of our students and their teacher, Mr. Pruitt, did a tremendous job. It was a great job by everyone involved in the show! Thanks to all of our guests who attended and helped to make this such an enjoyable evening!
PTO plant sale is this week
Be safe and check for ticks
Being outdoors and playing are vital for the health and development of our students. Kids get important exercise during outdoor activities and learn key social skills through play. In the warm weather, we will try to have our learners outside as much as possible in order to get these benefits. Our school's grounds are adjacent to a wooded area and each Spring, parents/guardians become concerned about bugs (especially ticks) being around our children; this is a normal concern. Please know that our school's grounds, including the playground, are treated regularly by a pest-control company. The company uses an organic, low-impact pesticide which is safe for students and does not require signs to be posted or a period of time to stay off equipment. If parents choose, they may take precautionary steps to help with pests, including bug spray and proper clothing. Also, we encourage parents to check their children for any ticks when they come home as this is a good idea now and always when playing in/near woods or high grasses (at school or elsewhere). Please take a minute to read the below-linked brochure from Monmouth County; this flyer contain useful info about staying safe outdoors. Lastly, if you do find a tick (or other insect), please do not send it to the school. Instead, refer to the info in the mentioned brochure. Please know that our students' safety is our top priority and we look forward to our learners having a great Spring outdoors!
