Growth Mindset, Recording Artists, Innovators and Golf Course Engineers!
Today we did a little bit of everything! We started by writing in our Growth Mindset journals about a time when we made a mistake and someone pointed it out to us. We tracked our internal thinking and the steps we took to correct the mistake!
Then we broke into partners to compare our shoe ideas from last week and combined ideas to develop a design for the ultimate shoe! The class really enjoyed sharing their innovative ideas with each other.
We did spent some time working on our rap songs, in fact, I was so pleased with the few that recorded today that I am going to bring in my imac next week and record them with better equipment. You will get to hear them... we might be releasing our CD in time for Christmas.....
Finally we started planning for our mini golf course project, This is a prelude to our larger golf course that we do in the spring. This mini golf course hole will be showcased at the Fall Festival and will be inspired by a idiom. The golf hole must also have several math concepts including parallel & perpendicular lines, angles (right, obtuse, acute). The ball must also change elevation while in play. I was really proud of how well they accepted my feedback. I really pushed each of them to come up with three totally different designs (this meant that everyone was sent back to the drawing board several times before I would "approve" an idea. I am really trying to build idea fluency so they understand that they need to think of more than one idea. I could tell that several were getting frustrated but it was worth it in the end. We will start building next week!
